Joint Audit: Issues and Challenges for Researchers and Policy-Makers

2013

International audience; The publication of the European Commission Green Paper, ‘Audit Policy: Lessons from the Crisis’ in October 2010, has stirred up a lively debate on the role of joint audits. This literature review identifies and evaluates, for the benefit of future research and regulators, existing evidence about joint audits. We find limited empirical support to suggest that joint audits lead to increased audit quality, but some empirical support to suggest that joint audits lead to additional costs. Overall, this paper indicates that joint audit should be seen as a mechanism that is embedded in a broader institutional context and not be considered in isolation from other factors tha…

The Durability of Composite Wood-Steel Systems

2010

Speed control of the V2 skating technique in elite cross-country skiers

2016

The aim was to examine how skiers control skiing speed using V2-skating. Subjects skied with three submaximal and maximal speeds on 100 m 4° uphill. Cycle variables and force parameters form the arms and legs were analysed. Cycle rate increased up to the maximum speed. Cycle length increased from the slowest speed to the all other speeds. Pole force and delta leg force increased up to the maximum speed. Ranges of motions and angular velocities of kick flexion and extension with knee and hip joints increased till highest submaximal speed. Speed was regulated with cycle length and rate while the latter was dominant after ∼5.0 m/s. Higher speed was reached with higher forces from arms and leg…

Anthropological investigation of a Kurdish village population from south-eastern Turkey. II. Internal differentiation of morphological features

1988

A small scale village society from southern Turkey has been investigated by demographic, social and anthropological criteria. An internal differentiation of the population on the basis of demographic and social data could be verified for morphological features, too. This is shown clearly by a differentiation of the population into two family complexes. The consequences for the interpretation of metrical random sample surveys in typological investigations are discussed.

Urban green spaces and childhood leukemia incidence: A population-based case-control study in Madrid.

2021

Abstract Background Childhood leukemia is the most common childhood cancer. To date, few risk factors related to predisposition have been identified; therefore, new hypotheses should be considered. Objective To explore the possible relationship of residential proximity to urban green spaces on childhood leukemia. Methods We conducted a population-based case control study in the metropolitan area of Madrid from 2000 to 2015. It included 383 incident cases and 1935 controls, individually matched by birth year, sex and area of residence. Using the geographical coordinates of the participants’ home residences, we built a proxy for exposure with four distances (250 m, 500 m, 750 m and 1 km) to u…

Epidemiologische Perspektiven der Migrationsforschung am Beispiel von Krebserkrankungen

2008

Epidemiologic research on migration and health in Germany is increasingly focusing on chronic diseases. Migrant studies can help to identify causes of diseases. They also help to identify health inequalities and can thus contribute to improvements in health care. With regard to cancer, descriptive studies among Turkish migrants and ethnic German immigrants from the Former Soviet Union have shown overall low, but slowly increasing cancer rates as compared to autochthonous Germans. For individual cancer sites such as stomach cancer, migrants appear to experience higher risks than the comparison population. Epidemiologic approaches studying cancer care and services for migrants, as well as ana…

Master's thesis Sports Science ME517 - University of Agder 2018 The background for the present study is an interest in what makes the best athletes the best. Many intermediate athletes exercise as much as the best athletes in the world, so what determines which athlete achieve the best results? The purpose of the present study was to analyze different characteristics of a biathlete at a high international level, and to investigate the factors related to the early life and relationships that contributes to the athlete's performance development. The research question for the present study is; "what characterizes early life, significant others and psychological characteristics of a biathlete w…

Children and Parental Barriers to Active Commuting to School: A Comparison Study

2021

The main objectives of this study were: to compare the barriers to active commuting to and from school (ACS) between children and their parents separately for children and adolescents; and to analyze the association between ACS and the children’s and parents’ barriers. A total of 401 child–parent pairs, from Granada, Jaén, Toledo and Valencia, self-reported, separately, their mode of commuting to school and work, respectively, and the children’s barriers to ACS. T-tests and chi-square tests were used to analyze the differences by age for continuous and categorical variables, respectively. Binary logistic regressions were performed to study the association between ACS barriers of children an…
