Impact of emergency medical helicopter transport directly to a university hospital trauma center on mortality of severe blunt trauma patients until d…

2012

International audience; IntroductionThe benefits of transporting severely injured patients by helicopter remain controversial. This study aimed to analyze the impact on mortality of helicopter compared to ground transport directly from the scene to a University hospital trauma center.MethodsThe French Intensive Care Research for Severe Trauma cohort study enrolled 2,703 patients with severe blunt trauma requiring admission to University hospital intensive care units within 72 hours. Pre-hospital and hospital clinical data, including the mode of transport, (helicopter (HMICU) versus ground (GMICU), both with medical teams), were recorded. The analysis was restricted to patients admitted dire…

Association between a comprehensive smoking ban and hospitalization for acute myocardial infarction: An observational study in the Autonomous Communi…

2020

Objective: To assess the association between a comprehensive smoking ban and hospitalization rates for acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Methods: An observational study was conducted to assess changes in hospital admission rates for AMI in the Autonomous Community of Valencia, Spain (population 5 million), during the period 1995-2013. Law 28/2005 prohibited smoking in all enclosed spaces (public and private), and Law 42/2010 extended the ban to bars and restaurants as well as children's playgrounds and access areas of schools and hospitals. Data on hospital admissions were obtained from the Hospital Discharge Database (CMBD) of the Autonomous Community. Annual hospital admission rates per …

Group Therapy Module to Enhance Self-Esteem in Patients with Borderline Personality Disorder: A Pilot Study

2010

Psychotherapeutic treatments of borderline personality disorder (BPD) often focus on severe behavioral problems. Until now, few techniques have been developed to specifically address low self-esteem in BPD. We developed a 6-session psychoeducative group therapy module to treat low self-esteem in BPD patients. After developing and piloting the therapy module, a controlled outpatient pilot study was performed. Nineteen female BPD patients participated in the group module after discharge from an inpatient DBT program. Twenty-four female BPD patients served as controls. Outcome was assessed by different self-esteem measures. Results showed a greater improvement in self-esteem in the interventio…

Changes in Treatment of Very Elderly Patients Six Weeks after Discharge from Geriatrics Department

2020

We assessed the prescriptions of patients hospitalized in a geriatric unit and subsequently discharged. This prospective and observational study was conducted over a two-month period in the geriatrics department (acute and rehabilitation units) of a university hospital. Patients discharged from this department were included over a two-month period. Prescriptions were analyzed at admission and discharge from the geriatrics department (DGD), and six weeks after DGD. We included 209 patients, 63% female, aged 86.8 years. The mean number of medications prescribed was significantly higher at DGD than at admission (7.8 vs. 7.1, p = 0.003). During hospitalization, 1217 prescriptions were changed (…

International Legal Approaches to Waste Water Discharges

2002

This chapter is devoted t…

The hydrothermal system of the Domuyo volcanic complex (Argentina): A conceptual model based on new geochemical and isotopic evidences

2016

The Domuyo volcanic complex (Neuquén Province, Argentina) hosts one of the most promising geothermal systems of Patagonia, giving rise to thermal manifestations discharging hot and Cl−-rich fluids. This study reports a complete geochemical dataset of gas and water samples collected in three years (2013, 2014 and 2015) from the main fluid discharges of this area. The chemical and isotopic composition (δD-H2O and δ18O-H2O) of waters indicates that rainwater and snow melting are the primary recharge of a hydrothermal reservoir located at relative shallow depth (400–600 m) possibly connected to a second deeper (2–3 km) reservoir. Reactive magmatic gases are completely scrubbed by the hydrotherm…

Influence of initial treatments of aluminium on the morphological features of electrochemically formed alumina membranes

2003

Abstract The fabrication of alumina membranes by electrochemical oxidation of annealed aluminium was investigated. Porous layers were grown in 0.4 M H3PO4 at −1 and 5 °C at different anodising times. The morphology of the outer surface was found to be dependent on temperature and charge density, with both determining the extent of chemical dissolution of the anodic oxide. The inner-surface morphology was found to depend on the applied voltage only. The chemical dissolution rate of anodic oxide grown on annealed aluminium was found to be lower than that formed on unannealed aluminium under otherwise identical conditions. Such a difference in behaviour is explained in terms of a higher finish…

Thermostimulated processes in statically and dynamically disordered luminescent solids

1993

Abstract Trap spectra depending on the concentration of defects in crystalline KBr-T1, LiF-Mg, Ti, A1 2 O 3 and glassy Na 2 O·SiO 2 are investigated. The nature of inhomogeneous broadening and continuous distribution of traps over activation energies at sufficiently high defect concentrations is considered. Impurity hopping controlled recombination of electronic excitations is observed. The presence of enlarged values of process activation energies and frequency factors is discussed in terms of the concept of dynamic disorder, taking into account the fluctuational changes in both the perfectpart and the structure of defects in the solid at high temperatures.

Unravelling substitution effects on charge transfer characteristics in cocrystals of pyrene based donors and 3,5-dinitrobenzoic acid

2019

Here we report charge-transfer cocrystals composed of pyrene and amino/bromopyrene as π-donors (D) and 3,5-dinitrobenzoic acid (A) as a π-acceptor. The 1 : 1 cocrystals of pyrene/1-aminopyrene adopt a ⋯DADADA⋯ mixed stack arrangement whereas the 2 : 1 cocrystal of 1-bromopyrene and 3,5-dinitrobenzoic acid shows ⋯DDADDA⋯ stacking. Crystallographic, spectral and theoretical studies reveal that the frontier molecular orbital energy level rather than the π-donor strength plays the governing role in predicting charge transfer. In addition, a theoretical study demonstrates that the ambipolar semiconductor nature in cocrystals of the pyrene/aminopyrene donor and the p-type nature of bromopyrene wi…

Finite-size scaling of charge carrier mobility in disordered organic semiconductors

2016

Simulations of charge transport in amorphous semiconductors are often performed in microscopically sized systems. As a result, charge carrier mobilities become system-size dependent. We propose a simple method for extrapolating a macroscopic, nondispersive mobility from the system-size dependence of a microscopic one. The method is validated against a temperature-based extrapolation [A. Lukyanov and D. Andrienko, Phys. Rev. B 82, 193202 (2010)]. In addition, we provide an analytic estimate of system sizes required to perform nondispersive charge transport simulations in systems with finite charge carrier density, derived from a truncated Gaussian distribution. This estimate is not limited t…
