This paper analyses a previously unpublished case study of island tourism livelihoods from the archipelago of Smøla, Norway, examining the pros and cons of implemented or proposed tourism livelihoods based on a snapshot from 2008-2009. Smøla’s tourism livelihoods are categorised by nature, technology focusing on the wind farm, fishing and hunting, cultural landscapes, culture, and history. Ceratothoa steindachneri (Isopoda: Cymothoidae) and Pentacapsula cutanea (Myxozoa: Pentacapsulidae) parasites infecting the blacktail-comber ( Serranus atricauda ) were considered suitable as biological tags for stock identification around the islands of La Palma and Gran Canaria, in the Western and Eastern areas of the Canarian archipelago, respectively. The technology of integrated circuits imposes upon their designers the need to deal with structures with distributed parameters. Figure 4.1 shows a schematic diagram of part of a digital integrated chip, consisting of an n MOS transistor with gate (G), drain (D) and source (S) as terminals, and its thin-film connection with the rest of the chip. This on-chip connection can be made by metals (Al, W), polycristaline silicon (polysilicon) or metal suicides (WSi 2 ). Alternative materials to oxide-passivated silicon substrates are saphire and gallium arsenide (Saraswat and Mohammadi [1982], Yuan et al. [1982], Passlack et al. [1990]).

The authors report new records of Bombyliidae (Diptera) for Lampedusa Island discovered during field investigations carried out for a broader research project in the island. Data are updated to July 2010. Four species of Bombyliidae new for Lampedusa have been found, one of which has not been recorded for Sicilan dipterofauna. The present data bring to 60 the species of Diptera reported for Lampedusa Island.

Advanced Drug Screening platforms by Inkjet printing

In this work, we show a low-cost, speed, microarray-based drug screening platform that employs inkjet printing drug dispensing on an enzymatic-rich surface. Mixtures of a model substrate (Dglucose)/ inhibitor (D-glucal) couple have been inkjet printed on a target enzymatic monolayer (glucose oxidase) linked to a functionalized silicon oxide solid surface [1]. It has been possible to fabricate microarrays with quality factors as high as those of conventional pin printing spotting. By a simple horseradish-based colorimetric enzymatic assay, the detection of biological activity at the single spot has been proved.
