Molecular cloning and characterization of a Candida albicans gene coding for cytochrome c haem lyase and a cell wall-related protein.

Immunoscreening of a Candida albicans cDNA library with a monoclonal antibody (mAb 4C12) recognizing an epitope present in high-molecular-weight mannoprotein (HMWM) components specific for the mycelial cell walls (a 180 kDa component and a polydispersed 260 kDa species) resulted in the isolation of the gene CaCYC3 encoding for cytochrome c haem lyase (CCHL). The CaCYC3 gene was transcribed preferentially in mycelial cells in which two mRNA transcripts of 0.8 and 1 kb were found. The nucleotide and the deduced amino acid sequences of this gene displayed 45% homology and 46% identity, respectively, to the Saccharomyces cerevisiae CYC3 gene and shared common features with other reported genes …

A new PCR-based method for monitoring inoculated wine fermentations.

A new PCR-based method has been developed to monitor inoculated wine fermentations. The method is based on the variation in the number and position of introns in the mitochondrial gene COX1. Oligonucleotide primers homologous to the regions flanking the Saccharomyces cerevisiae COX1 introns have been designed and tested for S. cerevisiae wine yeast strain differentiation. Four primers were selected for their subsequent use in a multiplex PCR reaction and have proved to be very effective in uncovering polymorphism in natural and commercial yeast strains. Sixteen hip joints of eight patients with multiple epiphyseal dysplasia were examined by clinical investigation, plain films and by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), using T1- and T2-weighted images and gradient echoes. MRI is useful in demonstrating the congruity of the joint, in the changes of the epiphyseal signal intensities and the epiphyseal line. Individual changes of the signal intensity patterns on T1- and T2-weighted scans are described. Although MRI exhibits a variety of patterns in different patients, a clearcut differentiation from Legg-Calve-Perthes' disease is possible.

A recent multidisciplinary research approach came up with a possible candidate, Anna Catharina Bischoff who died in Basel in 1787 with an age of 69 years (1719–1787). Abstract In the present study, blend of poly l -lactic acid (PLLA) with a graft copolymer based on α,β-poly(N-hydroxyethyl)- dl -aspartamide and PLA named PHEA-PLA, has been used to design porous scaffold by using Thermally Induced Phase Separation (TIPS) technique. Starting from a homogeneous ternary solution of polymers, dioxane and deionised water, PLLA/PHEA-PLA porous foams have been produced by varying the polymers concentration and de-mixing temperature in metastable region.
