Mitochondrial proteins regulation in Rattus norvegicus and human cells

Wewnątrzkomórkowa lokalizacja ftalocyjanin jako wyznacznik skuteczności terapii fotodynamicznej
2017
Terapia fotodynamiczna (PDT) zyskuje coraz większe uznanie dzięki ftalocyjaninom, które są stosowane jako fotouczulacze. Cząsteczki ftalocyjanin, absorbując promieniowanie w zakresie 600-800 nm w obecności tlenu cząsteczkowego, wytwarzają reaktywne formy tlenu (głównie rodniki tlenowe), które doprowadzają do destrukcji komórki.
Molecular analysis of genetic diversity of Phytophthora citrophthora using nuclear and mitochondrial markers
Elucidating geological and biological processes underlying the diversification of Sulawesi tarsiers.
2009
Because of their exceptionally long independent evolution, a range diminution of their Eocene relatives, and a remarkable subsequent diversification in Southeast Asia, tarsiers are of particular importance to evolutionary primatologists. Little is known, however, on the processes shaping the radiation of these small enigmatic primates—especially on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi, their center of endemism. Geological reconstructions and progress in applying DNA sequence information to divergence dating now provide us with the tools and background to comprehend tarsier dispersal. Here, we describe effects of plate-tectonic movements, Pleistocene sea level changes, and hybridization on the…
Mitochondrial DNA deletion and male infertility
2009
Abstract The term “male infertility” does not constitute a defined clinical syndrome, but rather, a collection of different conditions exhibiting a variety of aetiologies and varying diagnosis. In men, oligozoospermia, asthenozoospermia, teratozoospermia and azoospermia are the main causes of infertility. The present research is aimed to investigate if mtDNA deletions can cause sperm defects in idiopathic astenozoospermic patients with different sperm motility and sperm concentration. The incidence of deletions in mtDNA (mtDNA) was co-related with diagnostic categorization of male infertility when 6.6kb out of the 16.6kb of the mitochondrial genome was amplified from whole sperm samples, f…

Decreasing mitochondrial energy-production efficiency in skeletal muscle can confer protection against diet-induced obesity.
The utility of SATB2 immunohistochemical expression in distinguishing between osteosarcomas and their malignant bone tumor mimickers, such as Ewing s…
2016
SATB2 is commonly expressed in osteosarcomas. Although apparently being a valuable diagnostic marker for differentiating between small cell osteosarcoma (SCO) and other small round cell tumors of bone, for instance Ewing sarcoma family of tumors (ESFT), it has not been tested in a large series of ESFT and chondrosarcomas so far. We studied the immunohistochemical expression of SATB2 in 42 osteosarcomas, 31 chondrosarcomas, and 371 genetically confirmed ESFT. SATB2 positivity was detected in 90.4% of osteosarcomas, 87.5% of SCO, 91.3% of osteoblastic osteosarcomas, and in all chondroblastic and parosteal osteosarcomas. The osteoblastic and SCO subtypes expressed SATB2 more intensely than oth…
Osteoprotegerin (OPG) and RANKL expression and distribution in developing human craniomandibular joint.
2005
Abstract During embryogenesis the bone tissue of craniomandibular joint (CMJ) is formed through two pathways: intramembranous ossification and endochondral ossification. The development process is under the control of regulatory factors. The osteoprotegerin (OPG) and the receptor activator of nuclear factor (NF)-κB ligand are key regulators of osteoclastogenesis. The aim of this study is the localization of OPG and RANKL mRNA and protein in the foetal CMJ by immunohistochemistry (IHC) and in situ hybridization (ISH). The main results were: OPG and RANKL mRNA and protein were co-localized in the same cell types; OPG and RANKL were specially immunolocated in osteogenic cells; immunolabeling wa…
Treatment of Knee Osteochondral Fractures.
2022
Osteochondral lesions (OCLs) that are frequently encountered in skeletally immature and adult patients are more common than once thought, and their incidence rate is rising. These lesions can appear in many synovial joints of the body, such as the shoulder, elbow, hip, and ankle, occurring most often in the knee. The term osteochondral lesion includes a vast spectrum of pathologies such as osteochondritis dissecans, osteochondral defects, osteochondral fractures, and osteonecrosis of the subchondral bone. When considering this, the term osteochondral fracture is preserved only for an osteochondral defect that combines disruption of the articular cartilage and subchondral bone. These fractur…
