We examined the effects of spatial frequency similarity and dissimilarity on human contour integration under various conditions of uncertainty. Participants performed a temporal 2AFC contour detection task. Spatial frequency jitter up to 3.0 octaves was applied either to background elements, or to contour and background elements, or to none of both. Results converge on four major findings. Il contributo intende offrire alcuni spunti di indagine sul rapporto fra Bergman e la musica, focalizzandosi sul film "Sussurri e grida" del 1972 e allargandosi a una meditazione più ampia incentrata sulla presenza di alcune tematiche ricorrenti (l'infanzia, la morte, il ricordo). A fungere da 'trait d’union' è la concezione del tempo che Bergman elabora all’interno del film e che assume particolare rilievo alla luce del ruolo che vi ricopre la "Mazurka in La minore op. 17 n. 4" di Chopin.

Northwest Europe’s largest heather-dominated sandy habitats are located in the nature reserve Lu¨neburgerHeide, Germany. Yet, even these appear to be losing their ability to support some of their stenotopic species such as theladybird spider, Eresus kollari Rossi 1846, and are thus becoming increasingly important for the preservation of thesespecies. Three-dimensional Hall effect accelerometer for recording head movements of freely moving laboratory animals

A Hall effect device was constructed for a measurement of head movements in three spatial dimensions during classical conditioning experiments in cats. A Hall sensor was used to detect movements of a magnetic fragment floating in a small (15 x 15 mm) cube. The magnetic fragment was kept in the centre of the sealed cube with a thin coil spring which was filled with thin oil for damping excessive afteroscillations. A comparison of this device to a commercial accelerometer showed that the accuracy of the Hall device is sufficient for the movement recordings and that the device is sensitive also to slowly accelerating movements. Psychological models of development of idiopathic environmental intolerances: Evidence from longitudinal population-based data.

Abstract The origin of idiopathic environmental intolerances (IEIs) is an open question. According to the psychological approaches, various top-down factors play a dominant role in the development of IEIs. The general psychopathology model assumes a propensity towards mental ill-health (negative affectivity) increases the probability of developing IEIs. The attribution model emphasizes the importance of mistaken attribution of experienced somatic symptoms; thus, more symptoms should lead to more IEIs. Identification of minor affective disorders and implications for psychopharmacotherapy.

Five hundred general practice patients with functional complaints were studied with the Polydiagnostic Interview (PODI) to see whether DSM-IIIR criteria were able to specify affective disorders satisfactorily. Almost one third of the patients received the diagnosis of depression not otherwise specified (NOS). When Research Diagnostic Criteria were applied to these patients more than 70% received specific diagnoses. A modification of DSM-IIIR algorithms enabled us to further specify diagnoses in subjects with depression NOS. On the 17-item Hamilton Depression Scale many of these patients reached scores of 13 or more which is severe enough to justify a therapy trial with antidepressants.
Hypochondriasis and somatization: two distinct aspects of somatoform disorders?

We investigated boundaries and overlap between somatization and hypochondriasis on different levels of psychopathology: (1) comorbidity between hypochondriasis and somatization on the level of diagnoses in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition (DSM-IV; American Psychiatric Association, 1994): (2) comorbidity with other mental disorders; (3) differences in clinical characteristics: and (4) overlap on the level of psychometric measures. Abstract Background This study aims to examine the underlying associations between eating, affective and metacognitive symptoms in patients with binge eating disorder (BED) through network analysis (NA) in order to identify key variables that may be considered the target for psychotherapeutic interventions. Methods A total of 155 patients with BED completed measures of eating psychopathology, affective symptoms, emotion regulation and metacognition.
