Group psychotherapy in Italy
2015
This article describes the history and the prevailing orientations of group psychotherapy in Italy (psychoanalytically oriented, psychodrama, CBT groups) and particularly group analysis. Provided free of charge by the Italian health system, group psychotherapy is growing, but its expansion is patchy. The main pathways of Italian training in the different group psychotherapy orientations are also presented. Clinical-theoretical elaboration on self development, psychopathology related to group experiences, and the methodological attention paid to objectives and methods in different clinical groups are issues related to group therapy in Italy. Difficulties in the relationship between research …
Antioxidants: Role in the prevention and treatment of bronchopulmonary dysplasia
2022
Bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) is one of the major causes of chronic respiratory diseases among infants. Both pharmacological and nonpharmacological approaches have been proposed for its management. Since oxidative stress is known to play a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of BPD, it is reasonable to consider the potential of antioxidant strategies in the prevention and treatment of this condition. Indeed, antioxidants can prevent or inhibit substrate oxidation. Some studies have evaluated the efficacy of the exogenous administration of vitamins and micronutrients in reducing the propagation of free radicals through their scavenging capacity. Nonetheless, encouraging preclinical results d…

Target oxygen levels in preterm neonates
2013
To achieve postnatal adaptation newly born infant need to aerate the lungs, reduce pulmonary vascular resistance, and initiate oxygen and carbon dioxide exchange. The cornerstone of newborn resuscitation resides therefore in the establishment of a functional residual capacity and an adequate oxygenation. Recent guidelines have established guidelines concerning oxygen supplementation in preterm infants in the delivery room (DR); however, they are vague and unspecific. Herewith, we will address available information regarding the use of oxygen supplementation in the DR in preterm infants to satisfactorily overcome postnatal adaptation. Introduction: Resuscitation of the newborn is considered …
Pédagogie muséale et enseignement du volcanisme à la Réunion
2003
Research into pedagogy in museums underlines the double tranposition of the theory principles of the science media and of psycho-pedagogy. At stake is understanding why and how pupils can build their scientific learning in a museum environment. This present contribution will propose a reflection on this issue based on the example of the teaching of volcanism on Réunion Island. The analysis of interviews conducted with teachers in first schools and secondary schools shows to what extent the pupils benefit from a significant pedagogical impact in the framework of their visits to the thematic museum in Piton de la Fournaise. The results show that the teachers, going further than the objectives…
Are affective temperaments determinants of quality of life in euthymic patients with bipolar disorder?
2018
Background: Bipolar disorder (BD) is a disabling illness that is associated with low quality of life (QoL). This low QoL goes further than mood episodes, which suggests that stable traits, such as affective temperaments, can cause functional impairment. Objective: Our study analyses the impact of affective temperaments on the Physical Component Summary (PCS) and Mental Component Summary (MCS) of QoL in euthymic BD patients. Methods: A multicentre study was conducted in 180 euthymic BD patients and 95 healthy controls. Firstly, statistical analyses were performed to compare QoL and affective temperaments between the two groups. Secondly, Adaptive Lasso Analysis was carried out to identify th…

The impact of study design and diagnostic approach in a large multi-centre ADHD study. Part 1: ADHD symptom patterns
2011
Contains fulltext : 96439.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Open Access) BACKGROUND: The International Multi-centre ADHD Genetics (IMAGE) project with 11 participating centres from 7 European countries and Israel has collected a large behavioural and genetic database for present and future research. Behavioural data were collected from 1068 probands with the combined type of attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD-CT) and 1446 'unselected' siblings. The aim was to analyse the IMAGE sample with respect to demographic features (gender, age, family status, and recruiting centres) and psychopathological characteristics (diagnostic subtype, symptom frequencies, age at symptom detection, and com…

Adequate number of consumers in a liking test. Insights from resampling in seven studies
2014
The recommended number of consumers to be enrolled in a hedonic test comparing several products usually ranges from 50 to 100, at least if no liking segmentation is sought. This paper seeks to examine whether such a panel size range is adequate, by means of 7 trials with different levels of product space complexity. Five types of products were tested: Two varied in fattiness and sweetness and were tested under the same conditions in two separate laboratories (4 trials); the remaining three, varying in taste and texture, were each tested in a different laboratory (3 trials). Each of the 7 trials was run by a different laboratory. Each of the seven laboratories enrolled in its trial 150 consu…
