Colorimetic biosensing dispositive based on reagentless hybrid biocomposite: Application to hydrogen peroxide determination

Abstract An efficient approach to enhance the performance of colorimetric biosensors has been developed. The biosensor is based on the co-immobilization of the reagent 3,3′,5,5′-teramethylbencidine (TMB) and the enzyme horseradish peroxidase (HRP) in a PDMS-TEOS-SiO2NPs support. The HRP, in presence of H2O2, catalyzes the oxidation of TMB, producing a blue color. The generated biosensor, doped with the substrate (TMB) and the enzyme (HRP) (entrapped or adsorbed), has been used to determine H2O2 in real samples. Abstract A comprehensive strategy for the analysis of UV-ink photoinitiators and primary aromatic amines (PAAS) in food-packaging materials such as, juice tetrabricks, pouches and bags has been developed using liquid chromatography coupled to Orbitrap High-Resolution Mass Spectrometry (LC-Orbitrap-HRMS). The methodology includes both quantitative target analysis and post-run target screening analysis. Fast pyrolysis of hot-water-extracted and delignified silver birch (Betula pendula) sawdust by Py-GC/MS

The thermochemical behavior of birch (Betula pendula) sawdust both untreated and after various chemical treatments (hot-water extraction, delignification, and hot-water extraction followed by delignification) was investigated by pyrolysis-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (Py-GC/MS). Kinetic, isotherm and thermodynamic studies of the adsorption of methylene blue dye onto agro-based cellulosic materials

AbstractThe purpose of this work is to establish the optimal experimental conditions for the removal of methylene blue (MB-as model basic dye) from aqueous solution by adsorption onto four agro-based materials, namely, cedar sawdust, pine sawdust, wheat straw, and Provence cane Arundo donax. Results show that an increase in acidity or ionic strength of the medium has generally a negative effect on the discoloration yield. From the data of pH effect, there is no need to change the initial pH of the MB solution to be treated. Bioplastic evolution is an evolutionary perspective conjugating the effect of acquired characters, and relations that emerge among the principles of evolutionary indeterminacy, morphological determination and natural selection. Addition of milk fat globule membrane as an ingredient of infant formulas for resembling the polar lipids of human milk

Polar lipid (PL) contents in human milk (HM) from two different geographic zones in Spain (central and coastal) were determined. These PLs were also analysed in several infant formulas (IFs), three of which contained milk fat globule membrane (MFGM), an ingredient used to resemble the PL profile of HM. Total PL in HM decreased significantly (p < 0.05) from transitional milk (48.62 mg 100 mL−1) to 6 months (28.66 mg 100 mL−1). In HM, sphingomyelin was the most abundant PL, followed by phosphatidylethanolamine; in IFs the most abundant PL was phosphatidylethanolamine. This study investigates the seed oils obtained from two different varieties of Opuntia ficus-indica (Sanguigna and Surfarina) growing in Sicily, Italy. Soxhlet and ultrasound-assisted extraction procedures are used to obtain the seed oils. The fatty acid profile, γ-tocopherols, carotenoid content, and the bioactivity in terms of the antioxidant effects (using ABTS, DPPH, FRAP, and β-carotene bleaching tests), and carbohydrate-hydrolysing enzyme inhibitory activity (α-amylase and α-glucosidase) are determined. Simultaneous Determination of Caffeine and Chlorogenic Acids in Green Coffee by UV/Vis Spectroscopy

A simple method for the simultaneous determination of caffeine and chlorogenic acids content in green coffee was reported. The method was based on the use of UV/Vis absorption. It is relevant that the quantification of both caffeine and chlorogenic acids was performed without their preliminary chemical separation despite their spectral overlap in the range 250–350 nm. Green coffee was extracted with 70% ethanol aqueous solution; then the solution was analyzed by spectroscopy. Cholesterol Content in Human Milk during Lactation: A Comparative Study of Enzymatic and Chromatographic Methods.

This study validates a gas chromatography (GC) method for determining the sterol profile of human milk (HM) and compares it with an enzymatic-spectrophotometric (E-S) method. Good linearity ( r > 0.97) and low limits of detection and quantification were obtained with the GC method (<1.8 and <6 μg/100 g of HM, respectively). Suitable intra- and interassay precisions (all <18%) and satisfactory recovery percentages (80-109%) were obtained for both methods. In addition, both methodologies were used to assess cholesterol evolution in HM during lactation, showing a 50% decrease at 6 months versus colostrum.
