Health status, diseases and vaccinations of the homeless in the city of Palermo, Italy.
2018
Introduzione. Risultati. Il campione è costituito da 52 senzatetto…

Psychological inflexibility explains distress in parents whose children have chronic conditions
2018
Experiential avoidance, cognitive defusion, and mindfulness have all been associated with psychological disorders and well-being. This study investigates whether they predict psychological distress, i.e., symptoms of burnout, depression, stress and anxiety, in parents of children with chronic conditions. We hypothesized that these factors would exhibit a large degree of common variance, and that when compared to mindfulness and defusion, experiential avoidance on its own would predict a larger proportion of unique variance. 75 parents of children with chronic conditions having burnout symptoms who participated in an intervention study completed measures of burnout, stress, anxiety, depressi…
Comparison of Disease Clusters in Two Elderly Populations Hospitalized in 2008 and 2010
2013
<b><i>Background:</i></b> As chronicity represents one of the major challenges in the healthcare of aging populations, the understanding of how chronic diseases distribute and co-occur in this part of the population is needed. <b><i>Objectives:</i></b> The aims of this study were to evaluate and compare patterns of diseases identified with cluster analysis in two samples of hospitalized elderly. <b><i>Methods:</i></b> Data were obtained from the multicenter ‘Registry Politerapie SIMI (REPOSI)' that included people aged 65 or older hospitalized in internal medicine and geriatric wards in Italy during 2008 and 2010. The s…
Latent tubercolosis infection in patients with cronic plaque psoriasis: evidence from the Italian Psocare Registry
2015
SummaryBackground The nationwide prevalence of latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) in Italian patients with psoriasis has never been investigated. Objectives To estimate the nationwide prevalence of LTBI in Italian patients with psoriasis who are candidates for systemic treatment. Methods Data were obtained from the Psocare Registry on those patients (n = 4946) with age > 18 years, systemic treatment at entry specified and tuberculin skin test (TST) performed according to the Mantoux method. LTBI diagnosis was based on a positive TST result in the absence of any clinical, radiological or microbiological evidence of active tuberculosis. Results Latent tuberculosis infection was diagnosed in…
Cutting Edge: Trans-Signaling via the Soluble IL-6R Abrogates the Induction of FoxP3 in Naive CD4+CD25− T Cells
2007
Abstract Chronic inflammatory diseases may develop when regulatory T cells (Tregs) fail to control the balance between tolerance and immunity. Alternatively, activated immune cells might prevent the induction or activation of Tregs in such diseases. In this study, we demonstrate that trans-signaling into T cells via the soluble IL-6 receptor completely abrogates the de novo induction of adaptive Tregs. Mechanistically, IL-6 trans-signaling augmented the expression of the TGF-β signaling inhibitor SMAD7. Consequently, SMAD7 overexpression in T cells using newly created transgenic mice rendered CD4+CD25− T cells resistant to the induction of FoxP3. Finally, IL-6 trans-signaling inhibited Treg…
How To Combine Ozone Therapies With Other Modalities For Maximum Efficacy
2018
In order to use Bio-Oxidative Therapies effectively, a small shift in thinking is needed. One needs to shift from Disease Literacy to Healing Literacy This shift in thinking leads to the inevitable conclusion that: Impaired Oxygen Signaling is the common denominator for all disease. Impaired Oxygen Signaling affects: • O2 driven energetics • O2's detergent function • O2's cellular repair function • O2's renewal function It is important to be aware of Oxygen's multiple functions in order to appreciate the importance of the role bio-oxidative therapies play in the reversal of disease conditions. In fact, no treatment…
Procedural characteristics and outcomes following chronic total occlusion coronary intervention: pooled analysis from 5 registries.
2021
Background Recent improvement in clinical skills, technology and hardware has resulted in improved success rates with chronic total occlusion (CTO) percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). We performed a study level pooled analysis from the five largest registries of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) of CTO. Research design and methods We conducted pooled analysis of 9500 patients in registries and data on procedural characteristics, technical success, and MACCE was collected. Results A total of 9500 patients were included in the analysis. Mean age was 65.4 years with previous CABG in 24.8%, reattempt procedure in 24.8% and mean JCTO score was 2.2. Final wiring strategy in hybrid al…
