J.-C. Although the four known …

Modélisation numérique d'assemblages collés : application à la réparation de structures en composites
2013
This study is one part of a program of research with regard to the repair of composite structure with extern bonded-patches. The principal objectives of this program are, on one side, the identification of all the factors susceptible to influence the long-term performance of this type of repair, on the other, to determine the extent to which the use of such assemblage can be proved to be an optimal solution. The conception of such a system needs essentially the development of a tool of simulation and of robust prediction because various mechanisms of damage can take place in a very complex way and the final fracture of the system arise from the propagation of damage zones. This study consis…
New technologies can support data collection on endangered shark species in the Mediterranean Sea
2022
In the last 50 yr, shark populations showed steep declines in the Mediterranean Sea. The IUCN lists most Mediterranean species as threatened (55%), while considering 27.5% of them Data Deficient. Here, sharks are currently one of the rarest and more elusive groups of animals, and data from fisheries and scientific monitoring still insufficiently support robust abundance and distribution assessments. New technologies can fill this data gap by linking people and scientists through new monitoring strategies. SharkPulse, an international collaborative project, aims at creating a large world database of shark occurrence records by mining images on the web, social networks, and private archives. …

Comparative analysis of leaf shape development inEschscholzia californicaand other Papaveraceae-Eschscholzioideae
2011
Dissected leaves in Papaveraceae-Eschscholzioideae have an architecture frequently encountered in the basal eudicot clade Ranunculales that could represent an ancestral condition for eudicots. Developmental morphology of foliage leaves was investigated using scanning electron microscopy and focusing on primordium formation activity (primary morphogenesis) at the leaf margin. Eschscholzia californica, E. lobii, and Hunnemannia fumariaefolia had a polyternate-acropetal mode of leaf dissection. Segment formation continued around the whole leaf blade periphery. Differences in mature leaf architecture was traced to variations in regional blastozone activity and duration. Epidermal cell size meas…
Regular Strength and Sprint Training Counteracts Bone Aging: a 10- year Follow-up in Male Masters Athletes
2021
According to cross-sectional and interventional studies, high-intensity strength and impact-type training provide a powerful osteogenic stimulus even in old age. Longitudinal evidence on the ability of high-intensity training to attenuate age-related bone deterioration is currently lacking, however. This follow-up study assessed the role of continued strength and sprint training on bone aging in 40- to 85-year-old male sprinters (n=69) with long-term training background. pQCT-derived bone structural, strength and densitometric parameters of the distal tibia (5% distal-proximal tibia length) and tibial midshaft (50% length) were assessed at baseline and after 10 years. The groups of well-tra…
