2021

Dennis Villeneuve’s Arrival (2016) has a key topic the encounter with the other and the mediations mandatory for this very encounter could be the occasion for a radical transformation of the subject, instead of a moment of immunitary closeness. By analysing the complex theoretical and formal structure put in place by the movie, this paper resorts to three keywords in the recent history of critical visual theory – that is, medium, communication, munus (e.g., gift in latin) – to show the exemplary nature of cinematic narrative in the understanding of contemporary biopolitical processes.

Cartelization process in institutionalized environments: legitimation and political communication

2017

International audience; The main objective of this paper is to analyze cartel party tendencies toward professionalization of communicative institutional processes (Mair, 015).The main role of the media in a audience democracy is indisputable (Manin, 1998). So the media politics are one of the main features of public space. In this way, Political parties have become platforms of placement of their leaders to occupy the largest number of institutional positions.

An external gaze: the Sicilian cultural heritage photographed by foreign travellers during the second half of 19th century

Since its origin, photography was immediately involved in a lively debate about the relationships that this new technology could have with Art, its production, its exploitation and its conservation: even if it was perceived as a potential threat by someone, several voices emphasized the revolutionary influence that photography could have on the arts. It soon became clear that the new media could also be used for the documentation of events and cultural assets, and thus as a tool for knowledge and safeguarding of the artistic and monumental heritage. Photography will soon inherit the role of nature’s copyist traditionally attributed to engraving but, due to its technological limitations, its…
