Temporal Dynamics of Varying Physical Loads on Speed and Accuracy of Cognitive Control.

The present study examined the effect of 4 physical-load conditions on interference control throughout a period of 45 min. A sample of 52 sport students was assigned to either a no, a low, an alternating low to moderate, or a moderate physical-load condition. A modified Eriksen-flanker task was administered in the preexercise period, 7 times during the exercise, and twice after completing the exercise. Significant interaction effects of time and condition, and significant time effects within condition on the reaction time of congruent stimuli and errors on incongruent stimuli, suggest a specific in-task effect of the alternating low to moderate and moderate physical-load conditions. Factors of local recurrence and organ preservation with transoral laser microsurgery in laryngeal carcinomas; CHAID decision-tree analysis.

BACKGROUND Indications of transoral laser microsurgery (TLM) are conditioned by the risk of local relapse. OBJECTIVE To evaluate prognostic factors of local relapse and local control with TLM (LC-TLM). METHODS Local relapse and LC-TLM were evaluated in 1119 patients. Logistic regression and CHAID decision tree analysis were performed. Ankle muscle strength influence on muscle activation during dynamic and static ankle training modalities.

Muscle weakness is considered a risk factor for ankle injury. Balance training and barefoot running have been used in an attempt to strengthen the muscles crossing the ankle. It is expected that training tasks that successfully strengthen the ankle would elicit increased muscular activity. Motor unit activation patterns during isometric, concentric and eccentric actions at different force levels.

Motor unit activation patterns were studied during four different force levels of concentric and eccentric actions. Eight male subjects performed concentric and eccentric forearm flexions with the movement range from 100 degrees to 60 degrees in concentric and from 100 degrees to 140 degrees elbow angle in eccentric actions. The movements were started either from zero preactivation or with isometric preactivation of the force levels of 20, 40, 60 and 80% MVC. Leg stiffness modulation during exhaustive stretch-shortening cycle exercise.

The present study examined the effects of muscle activity modulation on leg stiffness during an exhaustive stretch-shortening cycle (SSC) exercise in eight male subjects. Reaction force, electromyography (EMG) of the soleus (Sol), gastrocnemius (Ga) and vastus lateralis (VL) muscles and sledge seat position were recorded during the SSC exercise, consisting of 100 maximal intermittent drop jumps followed by a continuous submaximal jumping until exhaustion, on a sledge apparatus. Finger movements induced by transcranial magnetic stimulation change with hand posture, but not with coil position

We attempted to map the representations of movements in 2 normal subjects by delivering five transcranial magnetic stimuli (TMS) with a focal coil to each of a grid of positions over the primary motor area (M1). Isometric forces were recorded from the contralateral index finger. Maps were made with the hand in a semiflexed “neutral” position, and with the thumb and index finger opposed in a “pincer” grip. The electromyogram (EMG) was monitored to ensure relaxation. The wrist was immobilized. In the neutral position, TMS at almost all positions produced abduction.
