The thermal degradation of poly(oxycarbonylethylene) (poly-β-propiolactone) has been investigated within a temperature range of 180–220°C and under various pressures. The degradation begins with a considerable decrease in molecular weight, followed by an accelerating formation of acrylic acid. The reaction involves the following steps: 1 Random chain scission of polymer chains by typical ester pyrolysis with the formation of fragments one of which containing a carboxylic group the other one a CC-double bond at the chain end (Eq. (1)). 2 Formation of the volatile acrylic acid by scissions at the chain end, the amount of acrylic acid or the weight-loss increasing with the number of fragmentat…

The Narcissistic Personality Inventory 8: Validation of a Brief Measure of Narcissistic Personality

2020

The present study was conducted with the aim of constructing and validating a short form of the Narcissistic Personality Inventory (NPI). The NPI is the most widely-applied measure for the assessment of narcissistic personality traits and, therefore, it is of great relevance for many research questions in personality and social psychology. To develop the short scale, we first found the optimal eight-item solution among all valid combinations of the NPI-15 items in an exploratory subsample (n = 1,165) of our complete representative sample of the German general population. We then validated this model in a confirmatory subsample (n = 1,126). Additionally, we examined its invariance across age…

Magic mirror on the wall: Selfie-related behavior as mediator of the relationship between narcissism and problematic smartphone use

2019

Objective: Recent research has suggested that problematic smartphone use is associated with several psychological factors and that mobile apps and smartphone-related behavior (i.e. selfi e behavior) may encourage the development of problematic smartphone use. However, little is known about how the interplay between dysfunctional personality characteristics and selfi e-related behavior can infl uence problematic smartphone use. The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between narcissism and problematic smartphone use, as well as the mediating role of selfi e-related behavior in this relationship among young men and women. Method: In the current study, a total of 627 undergraduat…

Elementi della notifica: Il soggetto istante

2014

Overparenting hurts me: how does it affect offspring psychological outcomes?

2021

This review focuses on a peculiar typology of parenting characterized by overprotection, overinvolvement, overcontrol and an excess of entanglement; academic literature refers to this parenting style with the term overparenting or helicopter parenting. An in-depth description of overparenting constitutes the first part of this review. The second part of this review reports empirical evidence regarding the effects of overparenting on offspring psychological outcomes with particular regard to internalizing and externalizing disorders, coping strategies and dysfunctional personality traits. Depression and anxiety symptoms are frequently exhibited in offspring exposed to overparenting, as well …
