The contribution of hydrogen peroxide to the radiosensitizing effect of gold nanoparticles

Abstract Plasmid DNA in aerated aqueous solution is used as a probe to determine whose of the reactive oxygen species (ROS) generated after absorption of ultra-soft X-rays (USX) take part in biomolecule damage in the presence and in absence of Gold Nano-Particles (GNP) and specific scavengers. Citrate-coated GNPs with core sizes of 6, 10 and 25 nm are synthetized and characterized, especially in terms of plasmon band shift, ζ-potential and hydrodynamic radii (respectively 9, 21 and 30 nm). Efficacy of preheated chelating agents on calcium ion removal from instrumented root canals

Background The heating of chelating agents such as EDTA increases dentin wettability by decreasing surface tension. However, the calcium ion release effect of preheated chelating agents in instrumented root canals has not yet been mentioned. In this study, it was aimed to evaluate the number of calcium ions removed by the pre-heated chelating agents from the root canals. Acid excreting mutants of yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae.

Saccharomyces cerevisiae mutants acidifying glucose medium containing bromocresol purple were shown to excrete protons when placed in unbuffered water in the absence of any external carbon source. The mutants belong to 16 different complementation groups. Most of them do not grow on glycerol and the excreted protons are associated to particular sets of organic anions such as citrate, aconitate, succinate, fumarate or malate. These novel types of respiratory mutations seem to be located in genes operating in the Krebs or glyoxylate cycle.

Influence of Two Different Coating Application Methods on the Maintenance of the Nutritional Quality of Fresh-Cut Melon during Storage

This study aimed at evaluating the effects of two coating application methods, spraying and dipping, on the quality of fresh-cut melons. An alginate-based coating containing both ascorbic and citric acid was applied at two concentrations (5% and 10%) with both methods on fresh-cut melon. This study presents the effects of citric acid and extracellular pH (pHe) on the intracellular pH (pHi) of wild-type and citrate negative variants (cit−) Leuconostoc mesenteroides subsp. mesenteroides (Ln. mesenteroides M) and Lactococcus lactis subsp. lactis bv. diacetylactis (L. lactis LD). A recent method using a pH-sensitive fluorescent indicator carboxyfluorescein succinimidyl ester (cFSE) was adapted to measure the pHi of these two lactic acid bacteria in resting cells. Physical and chemical changes in minimally processed green asparagus during cold-storage

The purpose of this research is to study effects of an innovative packaging method on the shelf-life of minimally processed green asparagus. The physical-chemical parameters analyzed (weight loss, colour, texture, chlorophyll and citric acid), and monitored by untrained panellists during the cold storage period at 6 degrees C, showed that pairing of a semi-permeable film with an adsorbent material and immersion in ascorbic acid solution were able to extend the shelf-life of green asparagus. Transcriptomic and proteomic insights of the wine yeast biomass propagation process

Transcriptome and proteome profiles have been established for the commercial wine yeast strain T73 during an important industrial process: yeast biomass propagation. The data from both analyses reveal that the metabolic transition from fermentation to respiration is the most critical step in biomass propagation. We identified 177 ORFs and 56 proteins among those most expressed during the process, thus highlighting cell stress response, mitochondrial and carbohydrate metabolism as the most represented functional categories.
