Transforming adult education from neo-liberal to holistically inclusive adult education in Baltic States

2021

In this chapter, we explore the data of nation-wide adult education programmes in three Baltic states. These programmes incorporate informal learning elements from the perspective of active participatory citizenship (APC) and, therefore, this provision aims to enhance opportunities for young adults in vulnerable positions. We posit that the concept of active participatory citizenship (EduMAP Concept Note 2017) that aims at developing young adults’ politico-legal, socio-cultural and socio-economic proactiveness could be used for illustrating these educational programmes from the holistic education aspects (Jarvis and Parker 2005). Holistic approach to adult education (AE) denotes that knowle…

Journalism and fake news in the Covid-19 era. Perspectives for media education in Italy

2020

In this article, drawing from the data collected by the AGCOM during the pandemic crisis, we argue that the emergence of COVID 19 has made more evident the new relationships between the informative cybercascades, the significant need of news during a crisis, the presence of disinformation online, and the relevant consequences on collective narrations, often producing a generalized panic. We also argue that infotainment can be considered a critical turning point in the relationship between true and false in the news because of its fusion of facts, drama, and emotional narrative frames so that it is no longer possible to separate reality from media reconstruction of it. We finally argue that …

Inhibition of γ-glutamyl transpeptidase decreases amino acid uptake in human keratinocytes in culture

1990

Abstract Acivicin inhibits γ-glutamyl transpeptidase activity in human keratinocytes in culture. Treatment of these cells with acivicin produces a decrease in the uptake of L-[U-14C]alanine, 2-amino-[1-14C]-isobutyrate, L[U-14C]leucine and l-aminocyclopentane-l-[14C]carboxylate. D-[U-14C]glucose uptake is not affected by the presence of acivicin. These results support, for the first time in vitro, the hypothesis that the γ-glutarml cycle may be involved in amino acid uptake by human cells.

Significance of gamma-glutamyltranspeptidase in exocrine pancreatic amino acid transport.

1991

The exocrine pancreas is rich in gamma-glutamyltranspeptidase (GGT, EC 2.3.2.2) and exhibits high rates of amino acid transport and protein synthesis. The role of the gamma-glutamyl cycle in mediating neutral amino acid transport in the isolated perfused rat pancreas was investigated using acivicin, an inhibitor of GGT, and a rapid dual isotope dilution technique. When treatment in vivo with acivicin (50 mg/kg) was followed 1 h later by continuous perfusion of the isolated pancreas with 10 microM acivicin, GGT levels decreased from 53 +/- 3 IU/g to 4.9 +/- 1.5 IU/g. This marked inhibition of GGT activity was not associated with decreased uptake for either L-alanine or L-glutamine, suggestin…

Civic crowdfunding: A new opportunity for local governments

2021

Abstract In civic crowdfunding, local communities are asked to financially contribute to projects aimed at the regeneration of an area. Usually a local government acts as a co-funder. This paper employs a fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis to discover which conditions are combined and may result in the collection of a significant amount of funds. Five conditions were selected: the nature of project, the number of backers, the number of rewards, the percentage of backers that did not require a reward and the percentage of rewards not required during the fundraising campaign. The study used a sample of 40 Italian successful civic crowdfunding rounds sponsored and match-funded by a loc…

Miradas letradas, letras ad-miradas. Una conversación con el mundo social

2019

2019

To start the reflection, I I would immediately put at the center of attention a point from which the light can come the helps to grasp the meaning of this connection: just education and pedagogy allow us to see and understand the family as the place in the formation of the subject's first moral and civic evidences in an authentic or distorted manner.

NGO Legitimacy as a Continuous Negotiation Process : Fostering ‘Good Citizenship’ in Western Uganda

2022

The article draws on and contributes to debates on the legitimacy of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) engaged in development, defining organizational legitimacy as a social construct that is continually negotiated in relationships with diverse audiences. To explore the negotiated nature of NGO legitimacy, the article examines the efforts of a Ugandan NGO, Kabarole Research and Resource Centre (KRC), to foster citizens’ capacities in rural communities in the western part of the country. Drawing on interviews and participant observation, we scrutinize the ways in which KRC balances between different and even contrasting legitimacy expectations stemming from three types of encounters sign…

Educación moral y educación cívica. Aportaciones de la Escuela Nueva

2014
