The role of eutrophication reduction of two small man-made Mediterranean lagoons in the context of a broader remediation system: Effects on water qua…
2013
In order to meet the requirements of the European Union Water Framework Directive for the Albufera de Valencia (AV) Natural Park, in 2009, several areas of free water surface constructed wetlands (FWSCWs) planted with emergent vegetation and two small shallow lagoons planted with submerged macrophytes were created over a 40-ha area formerly occupied by rice fields. This area is currently a reserve known as Tancat de la Pipa. The dual goal of this programme was to improve the quality of the hyper-eutrophicated waters of the AV lagoon, the largest littoral lagoon in the Iberian Peninsula, and to restore former lost habitats to increase the biodiversity of the area. The lagoons were mainly fed…
Towards the identification of a new taphonomic agent: An analysis of bone accumulations obtained from modern Egyptian vulture (Neophron percnopterus)…
2014
This paper presents the results of a study of bones recovered in various current Egyptian vulture (Neophron percnopterus) nests in a Mediterranean region of the Iberian Peninsula. The Egyptian vulture, a diurnal, scavenging, rupicolous bird of prey, is one of four vulture species that currently inhabit the Iberian Peninsula. An analysis of the remains found in the nests confirms that it has a heterogeneous diet that includes remains from human activities (butchery and food production) and the carcasses of dead animals, although it is possible that they also prey on small-sized taxa. The taphonomic study determines these birds' capability of transporting, accumulating and altering bone remai…

Rapid Assessment of Gray Mold (Botrytis cinerea) Infection in Grapes with a Biosensor System
2015
Abstract: Botrytis cinerea is the causative agent of gray mold disease, which causes considerable economic losses to winemakers. The extent of gray mold infection of winegrapes is commonly visually estimated, a method that is prone to assessor bias. Here, we used rapid and simple enzyme-based screening consisting of carbon-electrode, screen-printed amperometric biosensors to estimate gluconic acid and glycerol concentration in winegrapes infected with different degrees of B. cinerea. The lower limits of quantification of the screen-printed amperometric biosensors were 3 mg/L for gluconic acid (corresponding to an infection rate of less than 1%) and 35 mg/L for glycerol; the response times w…
Drug release from α,β-poly(N-2-hydroxyethyl)-DL-aspartamide based microparticles
2004
Spherical pH-sensitive microparticles have been prepared by reverse phase suspension polymerization technique. Starting polymer has been alpha,beta-poly(N-2-hydroxyethyl)-dl-aspartamide (PHEA) partially derivatized with glycidylmethacrylate (GMA). PHEAGMA copolymer (PHG) has been crosslinked in the presence of acrylic acid (AA) or methacrylic acid (MA) at various concentration. The obtained microparticles have been characterized by FT-IR spectrophotometry, particle size distribution analysis and scanning electron microscopy. In order to have information about water affinity of the prepared samples, swelling measurements have been carried out in aqueous media which simulate some biological f…
From the Normative Heaven to Crude Matter. The Discursive Transformation of Good Government into Governance
2017
International audience; Abstract. The abundant use of the concept of good governance in political and media discourse can lead us to conclude that we are currently encountering a conceptual innovation. In actual fact it is an old concept that has its roots in classical political theory and resists any clear and precise definition. This article aims to reflect on the main changes experienced by the concept of good government and its metamorphosis into governance, by means of an analysis using a narrative of conceptual transformation from a normative logic to a technocratic logic.; Del cielo normativo a la tosca materia.
