The Liberal State and Criminal Law Reform in Spain
2010
Throughout the nineteenth century, European legal science experienced a profound transformation, the consequences of which are still relevant today1. It would be a mistake to suppose, however, that all the legal reforms that took place in Europe in the nineteenth century, originated and developed from nothing. The roots of this process of transformation can already be seen in the sixteenth, seventeenth and especially in the eighteenth century, and the course of the European Enlightenment.
Certain considerations regarding the protection of a capable natural person through guardianship in the light of New Romanian Civil Code
2016
Abstract One of the measures employed to protect an individual is guardianship. Legal norms treat guardianship aimed at protecting a person with full capacity of exercise in certain special situations in a different way than they do guardianship for minors or persons placed under interdiction. While guardianship for capable persons is governed by the rules of mandate, guardianship for minors and persons placed under judicial interdiction are subject to rules applicable to custody for minors (art. 171 of the New Civil Code). As follows, we shall analyse the legal provisions established by the New Civil Code in the case of guardianship for capable persons, emphasising novelty elements as comp…
Long non-coding RNA and messenger RNA—the meeting of two worlds
2018
Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs), defined as transcripts without protein-coding potential, have recently emerged as key mediators in numerous biological functions. LncRNAs act as regulators of gene expression at different levels including transcriptional and post-transcriptional regulation as well as chromatin organization.
An open-label, prospective phase I/II study evaluating the immunogenicity and safety of a ras peptide vaccine plus GM-CSF in patients with non-small …
2007
Mutations of the ras gene have been reported in 20-40% of NSCLC patients. If present, they are critical for the malignant phenotype of these tumors. Therefore, targeting them by specific vaccination is a promising therapeutic approach. In a clinical trial we screened for ras mutations in patients with NSCLC. Patients with ras-positive tumors were immunized six times intradermally with a mixture of seven peptides representing the most common ras mutations. Objectives of the study were the feasibility, efficacy and safety of the vaccination. In addition, the induction of a specific immune reaction was investigated by DTH tests, and the induction of peptide-specific T cells was tested in ex vi…

Functional equations of the dilogarithm in motivic cohomology
2009
We prove relations between fractional linear cycles in Bloch's integral cubical higher Chow complex in codimension two of number fields, which correspond to functional equations of the dilogarithm. These relations suffice, as we shall demonstrate with a few examples, to write down enough relations in Bloch's integral higher Chow group CH^2(F,3) for certain number fields F to detect torsion cycles. Using the regulator map to Deligne cohomology, one can check the non-triviality of the torsion cycles thus obtained. Using this combination of methods, we obtain explicit higher Chow cycles generating the integral motivic cohomology groups of some number fields.
Special arrangements of lines: Codimension 2 ACM varieties in P 1 × P 1 × P 1
2019
In this paper, we investigate special arrangements of lines in multiprojective spaces. In particular, we characterize codimension 2 arithmetically Cohen–Macaulay (ACM) varieties in [Formula: see text], called varieties of lines. We also describe their ACM property from a combinatorial algebra point of view.
On cobordism of manifolds with corners
2000
This work sets up a cobordism theory for manifolds with corners and gives an identication with the homotopy of a certain limit of Thom spectra. It thereby creates a geometrical interpretation of Adams-Novikov resolutions and lays the foundation for investigating the chromatic status of the elements so realized. As an application Lie groups together with their left invariant framings are calculated by regarding them as corners of manifolds with interesting Chern numbers. The work also shows how elliptic cohomology can provide useful invariants for manifolds of codimension 2.
A note on the dimensions of Assouad and Aikawa
2013
We show that in Euclidean space and other regular metric spaces, the notions of dimensions defined by Assouad and Aikawa coincide. In addition, in more general metric spaces, we study the relationship between these two dimensions and a related codimension and give an application of the Aikawa (co)dimension for the Hardy inequalities.
Bifurcations of links of periodic orbits in non-singular Morse–Smale systems with a rotational symmetry on S3
2000
Abstract In this paper we consider a rotational symmetry on a non-singular Morse–Smale (NMS) system analyzing the restrictions this symmetry imposes on the links defined by the set of its periodic orbits and to the appearance of local generic codimension one bifurcations in the set of NMS flows on S 3 . The topological characterization is obtained by writing the involved links in terms of Wada operations. It is also obtained that symmetry implies that in general bifurcations have to be multiple. On the other hand, we also see that there exists a set of links that cannot be related to any other by sequences of this kind of bifurcation.
