Recent Advances on the Halo- and Cyano-Trifluoromethylation of Alkenes and Alkynes

Incorporation of fluorine into organic molecules is a well-established strategy in the design of advanced materials, agrochemicals, and pharmaceuticals. Among numerous modern synthetic approaches, functionalization of unsaturated bonds with simultaneous addition of trifluoromethyl group along with other substituents is currently one of the most attractive methods undergoing wide-ranging development. In this review article, we discuss the most significant contributions made in this area during the last decade (2012−2021). The reactions reviewed in this work include chloro-, bromo-, iodo-, fluoro- and cyano-trifluoromethylation of alkenes and alkynes.

Dynamic combinatorial chemistry (DCC) is a powerful approach for creating complex chemical systems, giving access to the studies of complexity and exploration of functionality in synthetic systems. However, compared with more advanced living systems, the man‐made chemical systems are still less functional, due to their limited complexity and insufficient kinetic control. Statistical properties of general Markov dynamical sources: applications to information theory

In \textitDynamical sources in information theory: fundamental intervals and word prefixes, B. Vallée studies statistical properties of words generated by dynamical sources. This is done using generalized Ruelle operators. The aim of this article is to generalize sources for which the results hold. First, we avoid the use of Grotendieck theory and Fredholm determinants, this allows dynamical sources that cannot be extended to a complex disk or that are not analytic. Second, we consider Markov sources: the language generated by the source over an alphabet \textbfM is not necessarily \textbfM^*.

Abstract Background Quantitative modeling of the self-assembly of DNA tiles leading either to defined end-products or distribution of biopolymers is of practical importance for biotechnology and synthetic biology. Methods The combinatorial process describing tile assembly was implemented into a generic algorithm allowing quantitative description of the population of significant species accumulating during the reaction course. Experimental formation and characterization by optical and electrophoresis approaches of copolymers resulting from the self-assembly of a limited number of half-complementary tiles were used to define and validate generic rules allowing definition of model parameters. …
Use of ICT to support epidemiological surveillance on a community of university students during SARS-CoV-2 phase 3 pandemic

Populations documenting to date low incidence rates of SARS-CoV-2 infection are immunologically susceptible and at high exposure risk of new COVID-19 outbreaks during phase 3 of the pandemic. Following the experience documented by other countries with regard to the use of Information Communication Technology (ICT) to counteract the current pandemic, Italy has implemented a contact tracing system based on a mobile application. In this work, we describe the proposal of a complementary ICT-based prototypal model of COVID-19 prevention and surveillance system, involving the university students as sentinels acting both in the academic community and the general population.

We consider discrete dynamical systems coming from the models of evolution of populations playing rock - paper - scissors game . Asymptotic behaviour of trajectories of these systems is described, occurrence of the Neimark-Sacker bifurcation and nonexistence of time averages are proved.
On the Bias of Syntactic Geometric Recombination in Genetic Programming and Grammatical Evolution

For fixed-length binary representations as used in genetic algorithms, standard recombination operators (e.g.,~one-point crossover) are unbiased. Thus, the application of recombination only reshuffles the alleles and does not change the statistical properties in the population. Using a geometric view on recombination operators, most search operators for fixed-length strings are geometric, which means that the distances between offspring and their parents are less than, or equal to, the distance between their parents.
