Recognition of root canal orifices at a distance – a preliminary study of teledentistry

The remote recognition of root canal orifices was tested on 50 images of endodontically accessed teeth acquired with an intra-oral camera. The images were stored on a laptop computer and were presented to 20 observers who marked the visible canal orifices using software which stored the canal locations in standard files. The marked positions were verified on histological slices. In 87% of the cases, the canal locations were marked correctly. Inter-observer reliability depended on the location of the reviewed root canal (kappa = 0.44–0.77). The detection rate was related to the professional experience of the observers. The oral health education (OHE) given in Finnish health centers is mostly implemented by dental assistants and hygienists. However, there is no exact information concerning the distribution of OHE work and the working methods among individual health educators. The aims of this study were to assess 1) the time used for OHE by the dental professionals who bear most of the responsibility for OHE in health centers, and to evaluate 2) the collaboration between OH-educators and the parents of schoolchildren, school personnel and the other health care personnel and 3) the sources of the OHE knowledge and skills of these OH-educators and their methods according to their work load. This randomized clinical trial (Canadian Task Force classification I) aimed to compare 2-dimension (2-D) versus 3-dimensional (3-D) laparoscopic hysterectomy and pelvic lymphadenectomy in endometrial and cervical cancer patients. Between December 2014 and March 2015, 90 patients were enrolled: 29 (32.2%) with early or locally advanced cervical cancer after neoadjuvant treatment and 61 (67.8%) with early-stage endometrial cancer. The current longitudinal study aimed at evaluating the associations over time between mothers’ positive parenting, their parenting stress, and their preschoolers’ social–emotional competence and emotional–behavioral difficulties.
