The impact of criminality on the riskiness of cooperative credit banks in Italy: a macro regional approach

2017

In Italy, Cooperative Credit Banks (CCBs), unlike large banks, despite the economic downturn, have continued to extend credit to customers, but at the cost of a higher incidence of bad credit. This increased credit risk of local banks has been caused by management policy choices, such as preferring to modify the conditions applicable to credit supply and to engage firms in long-term credit relationships rather than initiating credit recovery procedures. The originality of this empirical analysis lies in its demonstration of the effects of environmental factors related to the spread of crime and lower economic well-being, higher unemployment and poverty in families on the credit market in So…

THERMOFLUID-DYNAMICS OF DEMO DIVERTOR CASSETTE

2023

The divertor is a critical in-vessel component of nuclear fusion reactors, being responsible for the fulfilment of certain fundamental functions for the machine: it must be able to handle the power deposited by charged particle and neutron irradiation, ensure the presence of channels through which the fusion ashes can be removed from the Vacuum Vessel (VV), provide plasma-compatible surfaces, and shield the VV and magnets from nuclear loads. The heat load that can be tolerated by the divertor under normal and off-normal operating conditions is a pivotal parameter when dimensioning a fusion power plant since exceptionally high heat fluxes can be observed in some regions of the divertor, in t…

Exploring Frequency-Dependent Brain Networks from Ongoing EEG Using Spatial ICA During Music Listening

2020

Recently, exploring brain activity based on functional networks during naturalistic stimuli especially music and video represents an attractive challenge because of the low signal-to-noise ratio in collected brain data. Although most efforts focusing on exploring the listening brain have been made through functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), sensor-level electro- or magnetoencephalography (EEG/MEG) technique, little is known about how neural rhythms are involved in the brain network activity under naturalistic stimuli. This study exploited cortical oscillations through analysis of ongoing EEG and musical feature during freely listening to music. We used a data-driven method that co…

Electron-deficient trifluoromethyl-substituted sub-components affect the properties of M4L4 tetrahedral cages

2017

Two supramolecular tetrahedral cages based on a new electron-deficient trifluoromethyl-substituted pyridylimine ligand are synthesised by sub-component self-assembly. Their structures are characterised by NMR und UV-Vis spectroscopy, high-resolution mass spectrometry and single crystal X-ray diffraction. The iron(II) complex shows host–guest chemistry, complex-to-complex transformations and novel electronic properties.

Thermofluid-dynamic assessment of the EU-DEMO divertor single-circuit cooling option

2023

Until 2019, the thermo-hydraulic development of the EU-DEMO divertor was based on the “double-circuit” concept, in which two independent cooling circuits served by two different Primary Heat Transfer Systems were used to cool the Plasma-Facing Components (PFC) and the Cassette Body (CB). During the Divertor Final Design Review Meeting, held in May 2020, the possibility to adopt a single cooling circuit to serve both components was suggested. This new cooling circuit was originally conceived with the aim of simplifying remote maintenance, with potential benefits for some aspects of safety and balance of plant design and integration. During the years from 2020 to 2022, in the fram…

The importance of the Logistics Performance Index in international trade

2014

Logistics and transport increasingly play a pivotal role in international trade relations. The Logistics Performance Index (LPI) analyses differences between countries in terms of customs procedures, logistics costs and the quality of the infrastructure for overland and maritime transport. The aim of this article is to analyse the impact that each of these components has on trade in emerging economies using a gravity model. Furthermore, the study also attempts to detect possible advances in logistics in developing countries, which are grouped into five regions (Africa, South America, Far East, Middle East and Eastern Europe) by comparing the first LPI data published in 2007 with the most re…

Composition des dépenses publiques et impacts sur la croissance économique : analyses théoriques et empiriques sur des panels de pays développés, éme…

2016

The economic role of the State has been the subject of much debate both from theoretical and the practical perspectives. The actors of these controversies include the objectors of the efficiency of the public intervention since Smith to the present days, Keynesians and economists of the synthesis. Topics ranging from principle of the invisible hand, tax, expectations, burden of the debt, crowding out effect, public sector production are treated through of such debates. The work explains the breakdown of public spending components and implications for countries at levels development (OECD, BRICS, and WAEMU). The study also indicated that the effects of the public spending and its components …

Leading indicator properties of US high-yield credit spreads.

2010

Abstract In this paper we examine the out-of-sample forecast performance of high-yield credit spreads for real-time and revised data regarding employment and industrial production in the US. We evaluate models using both a point forecast and a probability forecast exercise. Our main findings suggest that the best results come from using only a few factors obtained by pooling information from a number of sector-specific high-yield credit spreads. In particular, for employment and at short-run horizons, there is a gain from using a principal components model fitted to high-yield credit spreads compared to the prediction produced by benchmarks. Moreover, forecast results based on revised data …

A Stochastic Variance Factor Model for Large Datasets and an Application to S&P Data

2008

The aim of this paper is to consider multivariate stochastic volatility models for large dimensional datasets. We suggest the use of the principal component methodology of Stock and Watson [Stock, J.H., Watson, M.W., 2002. Macroeconomic forecasting using diffusion indices. Journal of Business and Economic Statistics, 20, 147–162] for the stochastic volatility factor model discussed by Harvey, Ruiz, and Shephard [Harvey, A.C., Ruiz, E., Shephard, N., 1994. Multivariate Stochastic Variance Models. Review of Economic Studies, 61, 247–264]. We provide theoretical and Monte Carlo results on this method and apply it to S&P data.

The modulation of immune complex aggregation by classical pathway-mediated reactions.

1985

Abstract Classical pathway (CP)-triggered reactions of complement-modulated immune complex(IC) aggregation (tetanus toxoid/human anti-tetanus toxoid-IgG; ICs of equivalence) were investigated turbidimetrically during the early stages of reaction. Monospecific Fab'- or Fab-fragments (rabbit) directed against certain complement components were used to block the complement function in normal human serum (NHS). Additionally, parts of the reactions were studied using purified complement components. C1q in serum generated by the addition of EDTA as well as purified C1q were found to increase the IC aggregation. In contrast to C1q, macromolecular C1 is able to inhibit IC aggregation, whereas addit…
