The synergy between the CsPbBr3 nanoparticle surface and the organic ligand becomes manifest in a demanding carbon–carbon coupling reaction

We demonstrate here the suitability of CsPbBr3nanoparticles as photosensitizers for a demanding photoredox catalytic homo- and cross-coupling of alkyl bromides at room temperature by merely using visible light and an electron donor, thanks to the cooperative action between the nanoparticle surface and organic capping. On the compatibilization of PET/HDPE blends through a new class of copolyesters

Polyethyleneterephthalate (PET) and polyethylene are incompatible polymers and their blends show, in general, poor properties. Compatibilization is then a necessary step to obtain blends with good mechanical and barrier properties. In this work different compatibilizing agents were used, i.e. a maleic anhydride elastomer and some new products containing graft-copolymers having polyester segments grafted onto polyethylene backbone chains. Both the functionalized elastomer and the new products drastically improve the morphology and the ductility of the blend. Collapse of Cylindrical Brushes with 2-Isopropyloxazoline Side Chains Close to the Phase Boundary

A high-molar-mass cylindrical brush polymer with a main chain degree of polymerization of Pw = 1047 is synthesized by free-radical polymerization of a poly-2-isopropyloxazoline macromonomer with Pn = 28. The polymerization is conducted above the lower phase transition temperature of the macromonomer, i.e., in the phase-separated regime, which provides a sufficiently concentrated macromonomer phase mandatory to obtain high-molar-mass cylindrical brushes. Structure and elastic properties of smectic liquid crystalline elastomer films

Mechanical measurements, x-ray investigations, and optical microscopy are employed to characterize the interplay of chemical composition, network topology, and elastic response of smectic liquid crystalline elastomers (LCEs) in various mesophases. Macroscopically ordered elastomer films of submicrometer thicknesses were prepared by cross linking freely suspended smectic polymer films. The cross-linked material preserves the mesomorphism and phase transitions of the precursor polymer. The elastic response of the smectic LCE is entropic, and the corresponding elastic moduli are of the order of MPa. Are polymers suitable rock analogs?

To evaluate if a polymer is suitable for analog modeling, it is essential to know the rheological properties of the material. Polymers used in analog modeling exhibit a complex rheological behavior; only part of which has been taken into account in most modeling studies. The mechanical behavior is strongly dependent on strain rate and temperature, and is characterized by specific dependencies of the storage and loss moduli, related to the elasticity and viscosity, on the deformation rate (frequency). Characterization and Processability of Blends of Polylactide Acid with a New Biodegradable Medium-Chain-Length Polyhydroxyalkanoate

In this work the processability and the mechanical performance of polylactide acid (PLA) based blends with a sample of a new biodegradable medium-chain-length poly (hydroxyalkanoate) (PHA) were investigated. The two polymers are incompatible with scarce adhesion and with the dispersed PHA particles size increasing with the PHA content. Rheological tests in shear flow indicate that adding PHA improves the processability of the matrix by increasing the content of this second component in the blend, as observed also for the torque curves, due to the very low viscosity of this new sample of PHA. Glass transition of polymer melts: Test of theoretical concepts by computer simulation.

Abstract Polymers are good glass formers and allow for the study of melts near the glass transition in (meta-)stable equilibrium. Theories of the glass transition imply such an equilibrium and can, hence, be tested by the study of polymer melts.
