EFFECTS OF CONJUGATED LINOLEIC ACID AND RESISTANCE TRAINING IN RECREATIONAL ATHLETES

2008

Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) is a mixture of positional and geometrical isomers of linoleic acid, that are known to posses several physiological effects such as enhancing immune response, reducing arteriosclerosis risk, and inhibiting carcinogenesis. Over the last decade, the use of CLA supplement has become widespread among elite and recreational athletes because it should increase training effects, improve fat oxidation, increase energy delivery, reduce body weight, improve lipid profile, and so on. The purpose of this project is to investigate whether CLA supplementation after a resistance training session affects general markers of muscle damage, total testosterone, cortisol and sex h…

Structural and functional organization of fish assemblages in a Mediterranean shallow CO2 vent.

2017

Inoltre poiché i vent so…

Optimizing the use of spineless cactus in the finishing diet of lambs: physicochemical properties and sensory characteristics of meat.

2019

BACKGROUND The use of spineless cactus in finishing diets for lambs improves the carcass quality. However, data about its influence on meat traits is very scarce. The effects of spineless cactus inclusion in the finishing diet of lambs at four levels (0, 150, 300 and 450 g kg-1 of dry matter, DM) in replacement of Tifton hay on the physicochemical and sensory properties of meat were studied. RESULTS The spineless cactus modified the chemical composition increasing the protein (P < 0.001) and the fat (P < 0.01) contents of meat, presenting the greatest values in lambs fed diets with 150 and 300 g kg-1 (DM) replacing levels, respectively. However, the spineless cactus did not influence the gr…

Bulk composition of northern African dust and its source sediments — A compilation

2013

Abstract This paper presents a review of bulk compositional data of northern African dust and its potential source sediments and includes elemental, isotope and mineralogical data. Northern African dust represents about one half of the total global atmospheric mineral dust burden, and its uplift, transport and deposition have strong impacts on climate and various terrestrial and marine ecosystems. The chemical data set shows, that an ‘average northern African dust’ exhibits comparable Si, Fe and Mn contents with respect to the average composition of the upper continental crust, is slightly depleted in the alkali metals K and Na, and enriched in Ti and P. However, the complete data set yield…

Textural, chemical and isotopic variations induced by hydrothermal fluids on mesozoic limestones in northwestern Sicily

1984

The results are given of textural and compositional investigations carried out on carbonate materials outcropping in various localities in northwestern Sicily where fluorite, barite and calcite mineralizations of hydrothermal origin occur. Observation of the textural features indicate variations in the degree of calcite recrystallization and silicification that appear to be more marked in rocks that show more evident effects of mineralization. The geochemical behaviour of the minor elements indicate variations in chemical composition (increase of Mn, Fe, and Sr and removal of Mg) as a result of interactions between mineralizing fluids and host-rocks. Comparison between the isotopic composit…

Isotopic composition of cattle pancreatic stones: biological and geochemical implications.

1977

Latitudinal variations of the O18/O16-ratios of carbonate and phosphate of cattle pancreatic stones parallel a similar pattern of oxygen isotope values in rain water. C13/C12-ratios were virtually identical for the 7 cases studied. Isotopic measurements of mammalian hard tissues may be used for studying short-term climatic variations through Quaternary.

Phenolic profiles of raw mono- and polyfloral honeys from Latvia

2021

Abstract The phenolic compound profiles of 393 raw mono- and polyfloral Latvian honey samples were investigated using a targeted ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-high resolution mass spectrometry (UHPLC-HRMS) method. This strategy allowed simultaneous determination of the content of 11 phenolic acids, 18 flavonoids, 2 plant hormones, and 3 water-soluble vitamins in honey samples of botanically diverse origin, including buckwheat (Fagopyrum esculentum), heather (Calluna vulgaris), linden (Tilia cordata), and rapeseed (Brassica napus). Honey samples were collected directly from the beekeepers and were analyzed in their natural, raw form. A selective high-throughput analysis was im…

Phenolic compounds and abscisic acid as potential markers for the floral origin of two Polish unifloral honeys

2012

The phenolic profiles of Polish honey samples from heather (Calluna vulgaris L.) and buckwheat (Fagopyrum esculentum L.) were determined. The phenolic components were isolated from honey samples using Amberlite-XAD-2 as a solid-phase extraction sorbent. For the determination of the composition of the honey extracts HPLC with photodiode array detector was applied. Identification and quantification of phenolics was performed by comparison of their retention times and UV spectra with those of standard solutions of pure reference substances and by using those references as external standards. From among 20 commercially available standards over 15 of them were identified as present in all analys…

Plant regeneration from isolated cells ofLavandula latifolia medicus

1988

Single cells were obtained from hypocotyl-derived callus ofLavandula latifolia Medicus. Cells were plated in Murashige and Skoog medium supplemented with indoleacetic acid (IAA), benzyladenine (BA), and several IAA-BA combinations. Cell division required the simultaneous presence of IAA and BA in the culture medium, but callus formation was only achieved with 0.1 or 1 mg/liter IAA and 2 mg/liter BA. To induce organogenesis, calli were transferred to various regeneration media. Shoot-bud differentiation efficiency depended on the composition of both the callus induction and the shoot regeneration media, best results being obtained when calli grown in 1 mg/liter IAA and 2 mg/liter BA were sub…
