The cartesian closed bicategory of generalised species of structures
2007
AbstractThe concept of generalised species of structures between small categories and, correspondingly, that of generalised analytic functor between presheaf categories are introduced. An operation of substitution for generalised species, which is the counterpart to the composition of generalised analytic functors, is also put forward. These definitions encompass most notions of combinatorial species considered in the literature — including of course Joyal's original notion — together with their associated substitution operation. Our first main result exhibits the substitution calculus of generalised species as arising from a Kleisli bicategory for a pseudo-comonad on profunctors. Our secon…
Effects of Diets Supplemented with Medicinal Mushroom Myceliated Grains on Some Production, Health, and Oxidation Traits of Dairy Ewes
2019
The beneficial properties of mushrooms’ bioactive compounds indicate their potential for use as performance-enhancing natural additives for livestock animals. A study was undertaken to evaluate the effects of diets supplemented with mushroom myceliated grains (MMGs) fed to dairy ewes on intestinal parasite load, milk production, milk fatty acid (FA) composition, and cheese oxidative stability. During an 8-week experimental period, 21 lactating Valle del Belice ewes were divided into 3 groups named MMG20, MMG10, and MMG0. Ewes in each group were fed hay ad libitum and 1.3 kg/day/head of 1 of 3 concentrates with MMGs at 20% (MMG20), 10% (MMG10), or 0% (MMG0). The ewes fed MMG20 had comparable…
Evaluation of Fungistatic Activity of Eight Selected Essential Oils on Four Heterogeneous Fusarium Isolates Obtained from Cereal Grains in Southern P…
2020
The aim of the study was to determine the relationship between the chemical composition of eight commercial essential oils (EsO) (garlic, grapefruit, lemon grass, tea tree, thyme, verbena, cajeput, and Litsea cubeba) and their fungistatic activity in relation to four species of Fusarium: F. avenaceum, F. culmorum, F. graminearum, and F. oxysporum. The species identification of Fusarium isolates was confirmed by matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight (MALDI-TOF) mass spectrometer. The determination of qualitative and quantitative chemical composition of the EsO was carried out using the gas chromatography&ndash
Isolation and characterization of extracellular vesicles in Candida albicans
2020
Background : The occurrence of systemic infections due to C. albicans has increased especially in critically ill patients. In fungal infections, secretory mechanisms are key events for disease establishment. Recent findings demonstrate that fungal organisms release many molecular components to the extracellular space in extracellular vesicles. Aims: We develop a method to obtain exosomes from yeast cultures of the Candida albicans . Methods : Yeast strains used in this work were C. albicans SC5314, C. parapsilosis (ATCC 22019) and C. krusei (ATCC 6258). Yeasts were grown at 37.º in liquid YPD medium. The cell cultures were centrifuged and the supernatant filtered through sterile nitrocellul…
Trace element variability in single ostracod valves as a proxy for hydrochemical change in Nam Co, central Tibet, during the Holocene
2014
Ostracod shells, belonging to three taxa (Leucocytherella sinensis Huang, 1982, ?Leucocythere dorsotuberosa Huang, 1982 and ?L. dorsotuberosa f. postilirata sensu Pang, 1985), were collected from two sediment cores from Lake Nam Co, on the central Tibetan Plateau. Two variants of LA–ICP–MS (laser ablation–inductively coupled plasma–mass spectrometry), spot and line-scan analyses, were used to investigate trace element concentrations (Mg, Sr, Ba, U and rare earth elements [REEs]) in single ostracod shells. The results suggest that the line-scan method can provide better precision than the spot analysis and is therefore preferred. No significant difference in trace element composition between…
Optimization Under Fuzzy Max-t-Norm Relation Constraints
2019
Fuzzy relation equations and inequalities play an important role in many tools of fuzzy modelling and have been extensively studied. In many practical applications they are used as constraints in optimization. Algorithms for specific objective functions have been proposed by many authors. In this paper we introduce a method to convert a system of fuzzy relation constraints with max-t-norm composition to a linear constraint system by adding integer variables. A numerical example is provided to illustrate the proposed method.
Water chemistry and abiogenic methane content of a hyperalkaline spring related to serpentinization in the Argolida ophiolite (Ermioni, Greece)
2018
Abstract Hyperalkaline mineral springs related to active continental serpentinization are a theme of growing interest since they may contain significant amounts of abiotic gas and have important implications for energy resource exploration, subsurface microbiology and astrobiology. We report the discovery of a new hyperalkaline (pH∼12) spring issuing in the Agioi Anargyroi monastery at Ermioni (Greece), connected to serpentinization of peridotites of the Argolis ophiolite. Two water samples have been collected from separated springs and analysed for the chemical composition of major, minor and trace elements, and isotopic composition (2H and 18O) of water by IC, ICP-OES, ICP-MS and IRMS, an…
Flavouring Extra-Virgin Olive Oil with Aromatic and Medicinal Plants Essential Oils Stabilizes Oleic Acid Composition during Photo-Oxidative Stress
2021
Essential oils (EOs) from medicinal and aromatic plants (MAPs) are well-known as natural antioxidants. Their addition to extra-virgin olive oil (EVOO) can contribute to reducing fat oxidation. The main aim of this study was to improve both food shelf-life and aromatic flavour of EVOO, adding different EOs of Sicilian accessions of common sage, oregano, rosemary and thyme. The morphological and production characteristics of 40 accessions of MAPs were preliminarily assessed. EOs from the most promising accessions of MAPs were analysed by gas-chromatography and mass spectrometry. Photo-oxidative studies of the EOs were carried out and the determination of the EVOO fatty acids obtained from 4 I…
Polyomino coloring and complex numbers
2008
AbstractUsually polyominoes are represented as subsets of the lattice Z2. In this paper we study a representation of polyominoes by Gaussian integers. Polyomino {(x1,y1),(x2,y2),…,(xs,ys)}⊂Z2 is represented by the set {(x1+iy1),(x2+iy2),…,(xs+iys)}⊂Z[i]. Then we consider functions of type f:P→G from the set P of all polyominoes to an abelian group G, given by f(x,y)≡(x+iy)m(modv), where v is prime in Z[i],1≤m<N(v) (N(v) is the norm of v). Using the arithmetic of the ring Z[i] we find necessary and sufficient conditions for such a function to be a coloring map.
Seasonal characterization of nutritional and antioxidant properties of Opuntia ficus-indica [(L.) Mill.] mucilage
2021
Abstract Opuntia ficus-indica fruit and cladodes are a source of mucilage, a carbohydrate complex, as well as of phytochemicals and other nutrients, useful in the food industry. Despite the environmental-based composition variability has been studied, there is no information on its seasonal variability, which is particularly important for its industrial use. In this study, some technological, nutritional, and bioactive properties of O. ficus-indica cladodes mucilage were analyzed during the seasonal growth period. Total proteins did not change during the whole period and the lipid content significantly decreased from winter to the onset of summer. The fatty acid profile showed high levels o…
