The Relationship between an Oxidative Stress Biomarker and Plasma Haemoglobin in Patients with Chronic Kidney Disease

2010

Introduction: Evidence suggests that decreased haemoglobin plasma concentration may be a predictor of adverse cardiovascular events in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). We hypothesized that in CKD patients, oxidative stress could influence the development of cardiovascular damage via a relationship with haemoglobin levels. Methods: We assayed plasma levels of the biomarker of oxidative stress 8-ISO-prostaglandin F2α (8-ISO-PGF2α) and of haemoglobin in 193 stage 2–5 CKD patients, investigating their relationship. Eighty healthy subjects and 80 patients with primary hypertension having normal renal function were enrolled as controls. Results: The CKD group was divided according to 8…

In vitro evaluation of the efficacy of two bleaching procedures

2010

Objective: In vitro comparison of the efficacy of two bleaching procedures, one based on carbamide peroxide (CP) and the other on hydrogen peroxide (HP), simulating clinical conditions. Study Design: Two groups of 20 teeth in each group were selected. Group A: 22% CP, one hour a day for 21 consecutive days. Group B: 37.5% HP, in 2 treatment sessions with an one week interval between each session. At each session the product was applied three successive times for eight minutes. Colour was recorded before treatment, when it was finished and one week after finishing it, with the Vita EasyShade spectrophotometer. CIEL*a*b* and ΔE were established at each moment in the study. Intra-group data wa…

Evaluation of Safe and Effectiveness of an Injectable Solution Acid Deoxycholic Based for Reduction of Localized Adiposities

2018

Background:. The use of deoxycholic acid to reduce localized fat deposits is a procedure that has been in use for about 30 years. Its effectiveness as treatment is due to emulsification of phospholipids and therefore, solubilization of the biological membranes with resulting fat necrosis. The purpose of the study was to assess the effectiveness and the safety of an injectable solution containing sodium deoxycholtate 1.25% (DB125), used as intralipotherapy. Methods:. The effectiveness and safety of DB125 solution have been assessed with a multicentre observational prospective study carried out between February and October 2017. The 221 selected patients presented with various forms and degre…

A matter of fat: insulin resistance and oxidative stress

2012

Background Obesity is linked to insulin resistance (IR), which can lead to type 2 diabetes mellitus. Oxidative stress present in early obesity may favor the progression to comorbid conditions. Objective To examine the relationship between oxidative stress biomarkers and the severity of IR in a group of obese children. Methods Forty obese children with a body mass index (BMI) Z-score ≥ 2 were divided into two groups using the median obtained for the homeostasis model assessment of IR (HOMA-IR). Anthropometric parameters (including body fat composition by bioelectrical impedance) and biochemical parameters were assessed. The following biomarkers of oxidative stress were measured: malondialdeh…

EP626 Lymph vascular space invasion, an independent risk factor of sentinel node mapping failure in endometrial cancer, the sentifail study: a multic…

2019

Introduction/Background Sentinel lymph node (SLN) mapping has become the gold standard for surgical staging of early stage endometrial cancer. Side-specific systematic lymphadenectomy is suggested if SLN mapping failed. The objective of this study is to identify clinical and pathological factors associated with failed mapping. Methodology We prospectively evaluated a consecutive series of early stage endometrial cancer patients submitted to SLN mapping with indocyanine green (ICG) near-infrared compatible surgical platforms in two oncological referral centers from January 2018 to January 2019. Indocyanine green was injected intracervical. Bilateral mapping and failed bilateral SLN mapping g…

Transpupillare Thermotherapie (TTT) zur Behandlung von Aderhautmetastasen

2001

Effects of statins on low-density-lipoproteins size: a new role in cardiovascular prevention ?

2006

Cardiovascular diseases still represent the first cause of death in most of the industrialized countries. An effective prevention includes the treatment of a series of risk factors: smoking, hypertension, diabetes, obesity and dyslipidemia.1 Statins represent a class of cholesterol-lowering drugs as inhibitors of the hydroxymethylglutaryl-coenzyme A reductase enzyme which catalyzes one of the first steps of the cholesterol metabolic pathway. This class of drugs has been used in a very large number of patients, in both primary and secondary cardiovascular prevention, for its ability to reduce clinical events linked to atherosclerosis, including acute myocardial infarction, unstable angina, c…
