Chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) is characterised by chronic thrombi in the pulmonary arterial bed, causing pulmonary hypertension [1–3]. CTEPH is diagnosed in ∼3% of patients who survive a symptomatic acute pulmonary embolism (PE) [4]. While the surgical removal of chronic fibrotic thrombotic vascular occlusions by pulmonary endarterectomy (PEA) may cure most patients with CTEPH by normalising pulmonary artery hemodynamics and improving symptoms, patients who remain not operated or do not undergo balloon pulmonary angioplasty have severe functional limitations, and poor quality of life and survival [5, 6]. Perception of Finns Towards Refugees and Immigrants

This chapter explores the perception Finns have towards refugees. In particular, building off intergroup threat theory (ITT), this chapter describes the extent to which Finns perceive refugees as a threat to Finnish society. Researchers have proposed Finns might perceive immigrants (and refugees) as threats because they share less cultural and physical similarities with the “Typical” Finns. As fear of this threat increases, so can the chance of intergroup conflict between these two groups. Through an analysis of in-depth interviews, this chapter brings to light these perceived threats to understand the refugee situation in Finland, as perceived by Finns.

The link between senescence and reproductive success is a contentious yet crucial issue to our understanding of mate choice, sexual conflict, and the evolution of ageing. By imposing direct (i.e., male fertility) or indirect (i.e., zygote viability) reproductive costs to females, male senescence may lead to sexual conflict at different levels. For example, ageing may affect male ability to deliver sperm, thus setting the scene for sexual conflict over mating, and/or may affect the quality of individual sperm cells, generating the potential for sexual conflict over fertilizing strategies.
