The experimental facility for the Search for Hidden Particles at the CERN SPS

The Search for Hidden Particles (SHiP) Collaboration has shown that the CERN SPS accelerator with its 400 $\mathrm{\small GeV/c}$ proton beam offers a unique opportunity to explore the Hidden Sector. The proposed experiment is an intensity frontier experiment which is capable of searching for hidden particles through both visible decays and through scattering signatures from recoil of electrons or nuclei. Luminescence of oxygen related defects in zirconia nanocrystals

The luminescence of undoped tetragonal structure ZrO2 nanocrystals was studied. The luminescence intensity depends on oxygen content in gases mixture in which the nanocrystals were annealed. The distorted Zr-O bond is suggested to be the recombination center for band carriers. The oxygen deficient defect is proposed to be responsible for photoluminescence. Improving the high temperature oxidation resistance of pure titanium by shot-peening treatments

International audience; Shot-peening (SP) treatments have shown their capacity to improve the oxidation resistance of titanium and zirconium thanks to the large compressive stresses and the surface hardening induced by this mechanical process. However, shot-peening treatments can produce a surface chemical deposit, which can modify the high temperature oxidation resistance. Synthesis and Comparative Catalytic Study of Zirconia-MnCO3or -Mn2O3for the Oxidation of Benzylic Alcohols

Abstract We report on the synthesis of the zirconia–manganese carbonate ZrO x (x  %)–MnCO3 catalyst (where x=1–7) that, upon calcination at 500 °C, is converted to zirconia–manganese oxide ZrO x (x  %)–Mn2O3. We also present a comparative study of the catalytic performance of the both catalysts for the oxidation of benzylic alcohol to corresponding aldehydes by using molecular oxygen as the oxidizing agent. ZrO x (x  %)–MnCO3 was prepared through co‐precipitation by varying the amounts of Zr(NO3)4 (w/w %) in Mn(NO3)2. Inactivation of conidia of Penicillium chrysogenum, P. digitatum and P. italicum by ethanol solutions and vapours

A fractional factorial design, 2(5-1) experiments, was used for assessing the influence of 5 factors: water activity, aw [0.7, 0.9], temperature, T ( degrees C) [10, 30], mode of application, A [liquid, vapour], ethanol concentration, E (% w/w) [5, 10] and time, t (d) [1, 4] on the inactivation of spores of Penicillium chrysogenum, P. digitatum and P. italicum. Modeling the effect of ethanol vapor on the germination time of Penicillium chrysogenum.

The influence of ethanol vapor on germination of Penicillium chrysogenum was determined on yeast nitrogen base plus glucose agar medium at 25 degrees C. Ethanol vapors were generated by 0 to 6% (wt/wt) ethanol solutions at the bottom of hermetically closed petri dishes. The logistic equation was used to describe the data as the percentage of germination versus time and to estimate the germination time. The effect of ethanol concentration on germination time was described by a new reparameterized equation, resulting in an estimated limiting ethanol concentration of 4.3%. Mechanical treatment of TiO2 and ZrO2 oxide mixtures

The mixed ZrO2–TiO2 system (5–50 wt% of ZrO2) has been studied to investigate the influence of the mechanical treatment on its physicochemical properties depending on the composition, time of milling (5, 10 and 20 min, r.p.m. 82) and temperature (400, 550 and 700 C). Samples were characterized by Raman spectroscopy, X-ray powder diffraction, Scanning Electron Microscopy coupled with Energy Dispersion X-ray analyzer, High Resolution-Transmission Electron Microscopy and nitrogen adsorption porosimetry. International audience; N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) complexes of group 4 metals have been far less studied than their late metal counterparts. However, the field has been explored for over 25 years, and there is now a much clearer understanding of the metal-NHC interaction. Some exceptionally robust and active catalysts have been reported for a number of group 4 metal-catalyzed reactions, and recent developments suggest that NHCs are well-suited to enable the isolation of otherwise difficult to tame species, such as low-valent complexes.
