α7 Nicotinic acetylcholine receptors and modulation of gabaergic synaptic transmission in the hippocampus
2000
The present report provides new findings regarding modulation of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) transmission by alpha7 nicotinic receptor activity in CA1 interneurons of rat hippocampal slices. Recordings were obtained from tight-seal cell-attached patches of the CA1 interneurons, and agonists were delivered to the neurons via a modified U-tube. Application for 6 s of the alpha7 nicotinic receptor-selective agonist choline (or =1 mM) to all CA1 interneurons tested triggered action potentials that were detected as fast current transients. The activity triggered by choline terminated well before the end of the agonist pulse, was blocked by the alpha7 nicotinic receptor antagonist methyllycaco…
Sacelli "dimenticati" nell’area urbana di Akragas
2016
International audience; Between 1927 and 1930, Pirro Marconi investigated a small rectangular structure near house Filippazzo, in the central urban area of Akragas. The presence of a bothros and fragments of female figures with stephane suggested the presence of a small sanctuary or themenos for chthonic deities. The little news published by Marconi and the vague indication of location made us forget the existence of this sanctuary for many years. However, a survey carried out in 2016 allowed to identify the remains of Marconi’s structure, partly covered by ground. At the same time, other little-known structures have been identified. In some cases, their function is still unknown.
Alesa Arconidea (Tusa): proposta ricostruttiva dell’agora tardo ellenistica
2022
In the second half of the second century BC, in the wake of the building renovation that affected the most important urban centers of northern Sicily, even the ancient city of Alesa Arconidea remodeled its monumental structure. The agora/forum, in particular, was restructured in a scenographic system, acquiring the architectural characteristics of a typical Hellenistic monumental complex, similar to those of Greece and Asia Minor, by which it was influenced. In planimetric terms, to date up to the present time, the agora represents a unicum in Sicily because of its Π shape with deep double columns of the arcade, which enclose a large square excluded to vehicular traffic. Recent researches a…

Pseudodifferential Analysis on Manifolds with Boundary — a Comparison of b-Calculus and Cone Algebra
2001
We establish a relation between two different approaches to a complete pseudodifferential analysis of totally characteristic or Fuchs type operators on compact manifolds with boundary respectively conical singularities: Melrose’s (overblown) b-calculus and Schulze’s cone algebra. Though quite different in their definition, we show that these two pseudodifferential calculi basically contain the same operators.
Bis(3,5-dimethylpyrazol-1-ato) zirconium complexes as precursors for ethylene polymerisation upon activation with MAO: Syntheses, characterisation an…
2007
Abstract The bis(3,5-dimethylpyrazol-1-ato) zirconium complex [Zr(η2-3,5-Me2Pz)2(NMe2)2(NHMe2)2] (2) is obtained by treatment of [Zr(NMe2)4] with 2 equiv. of 3,5-dimethylpyrazole 1. The reaction of the [ZrCl4(THF)2] adduct with 2 equiv. of the potassium salt of 1 affords the dichloro derivative [Zr(η2-3,5-Me2Pz)2Cl2]n (3), while reaction with 4.1 equiv. of 1 in the presence of 2.1 equiv. of NEt3 affords the dichloro pyrazole adduct [Zr(η2-3,5-Me2Pz)2Cl2(η1-3,5-Me2PzH)2] (4). Treatment of [Zr(CH2Ph)4] with 2 equiv. of 1 gives the dibenzyl complex [Zr(η2-3,5-Me2Pz)2(CH2Ph)2] (5) via alkane elimination. Compound 4 presents fluxional behaviour in CDCl3 solution, which was studied and quantified…
Episodic deposition of the Lias in the Medianes nappe (western Switzerland): a record from mineralized ammonite-bearing beds
1992
Abstract Sinemurian and Pliensbachian depositional sequences from the starved distal northern continental margin of the Tethys are preserved in the Medianes Nappe (Western Swiss Prealps). They contain mineralized beds which include a variety of facies. The northern continental margin of the Tethys was broken into blocks, less than 50 km wide, during an extensional phase. The Sinemurian and Pliensbachian sediments in the study are vary in thickness from less than 50 m in the north to more than 200 m in the south. Although the upper Sinemurian to Pliensbachian mineralized beds are thin, between 0.10 and 0.50 m thick, they commonly contain several distinct faunal horizons stacked one upon anot…
La Grammaire de Condillac face au paradoxe de l'origine naturelle du langage
2012
The recent discovery of mirror neurons has rivived the gestural-imitative theory of the origin of language advocated by Condillac in the XVIIIth century. Condillac develops this theory in two stages: in the Essai (1746) he proposes a gestural theory based on the arbitrariness of the sign, while in the Grammaire (1775) he refuses arbitrariness and accepts the theory of analogy and natural imitation proposed by Charles de Brosses (1765). This choice depends on the fact that in Rousseau (1755) and Beauzee (1765) arbitrariness, as a "paradox of the original contract", now plays the role of key argument in favor of the divine origin of language. So, the theory of analogy and natural imitation is…
Quantitative electron probe microanalysis of metallic oxide mixtures applying an empirical calibration technique
1997
Abstract An analytical procedure is proposed for the independent quantitative chemical analysis of each element in the presence of other elements in the matrix of a sample by Energy Dispersive Electron Probe Microanalysis. For this purpose, an empirical calibration technique (which we shall call here the JABO method), which studies the variation of the X-ray intensities in terms of the analyte concentration in a chemical system with a complex matrix, is established. The methodology consists of the modification of the unknown sample by addition of a diluent, an internal standard and the analyte itself (dilution-addition method). A mathematical model is proposed to calculate the K parameters …
A taylor series model to evaluate the interelemental effects in X-ray fluorescence analysis, applied to the iron-zirconium-diluent system
1995
A semi-empirical model has been developed to quantify the interelemental effects in X-ray fluorescence analysis. The measured X-ray fluorescence intensity has been expressed as a function of the different fluorescence elements composing the sample. this complex function has become an operative function via a Taylor series development. An explication has been given for the significance of the different terms of the series. These terms respond to mathematical functions known as characteristic functions for each chemical system. A parameter (B) has been defined which makes it possible to quantify the influence of the interelemental effect as a function of the analyte concentration (C) and that…
