Heteropodinae: Transfers and Synonymies (Arachnida: Araneae: Sparassidae)

2002

New taxonomical and systematical results concerning the subfamily Heteropodinae are presented. The following new synyonyms are recognized: Adrastis Simon 1880, Panaretus Simon 1880, Parhedrus Simon 1887 are junior synyonyms of Heteropoda Latreille 1804. The nature of black stains in Lascaux Cave, France, as revealed by surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy

2011

We used surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy to investigate the chemical composition of the black stains threatening the rock-art paintings of Lascaux Cave, Montignac, France. The stains are mainly composed of melanin from the fungus Ochroconis sp. and the faecal pellets of the collembolan Folsomia candida. Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy is a useful technique for revealing the structure of unknown macromolecules in cultural heritage research. Copyright © 2011 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Geochemistry and potential use of groundwater in the Rocca Busambra area (Sicily, Italy)

2008

In the Rocca Busambra area (mid-west Sicily, Italy), from November 1999 to July 2002, 23 water points including wells and springs were sampled and studied for their chemical and isotopic compositions. Two rain gauges were also installed at different altitudes, and rainwater was collected monthly to determine the isotopic composition. The obtained results revealed the Rocca Busambra carbonate complex as being the main recharge area on account of its high permeability value. From a chemical view point, two main groups of water can be distinguished: calcium–magnesium–bicarbonate-type and calcium–magnesium–chloride–sulphate-type waters. The first group reflects the dissolution of the carbonate …

A NEW SPECIES OF ANTRUSA AND THREE NEW SPECIES OF CHOREBUS (HYMENOPTERA: BRACONIDAE) FROM THE IBERIAN PENINSULA

2004

Antrusa curtitempus, Chorebus liliputanus, C. propediremptum, and C. vicinus, four new species of Dacnusini from the Iberian Peninsula, are described, illustrated, and compared with allied species. Keys for their discrimination are provided. The taxonomic rehabilitation of the genus Antrusa is proposed.

El género Lysaphidus (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) en la Península Ibérica

1995

The genus Lysaphidus Smith, 1944 (Hymenoptera, Braconidae, Aphidiinae) is recorded for the first time from the Iberian Peninsula represented by two species: L. arvensis Stary, 1960, first record for the Iberian Peninsula, and L. santolinae n. sp., both of them parasitoids of Coloradoa Wilson,1910 genus (Homoptera, Aphididae). The mummies were collected on Santolina chamaecyparissus L. and Santolina rosmarinifolia L. (Asteraceae).

Rapid Assessment of Gray Mold (Botrytis cinerea) Infection in Grapes with a Biosensor System

2015

Abstract: Botrytis cinerea is the causative agent of gray mold disease, which causes considerable economic losses to winemakers. The extent of gray mold infection of winegrapes is commonly visually estimated, a method that is prone to assessor bias. Here, we used rapid and simple enzyme-based screening consisting of carbon-electrode, screen-printed amperometric biosensors to estimate gluconic acid and glycerol concentration in winegrapes infected with different degrees of B. cinerea. The lower limits of quantification of the screen-printed amperometric biosensors were 3 mg/L for gluconic acid (corresponding to an infection rate of less than 1%) and 35 mg/L for glycerol; the response times w…
