SU-E-T-509: DICOM Test Case Plans for Model-Based Dose Calculations Methods in Brachytherapy

2013

Purpose: The TG‐186 report provides guidance to early adopters of model‐based dose calculation algorithms (MBDCAs) for brachytherapy. A charge of the AAPM‐ESTRO Working Group on MBDCA is to develop well‐defined test case plans, available as references for the software commissioning process to be performed by end‐users. The aim of this work is to develop test case plans for a generic HDR 192 Ir source alone and in combination with a vaginal cylinder applicator with 180° tungsten‐alloy shielding in a DICOM‐based water phantom. Methods: A DICOM CT dataset was created with a 30 cm diameter water sphere surrounded by air. The voxel size was 1.33×1.33×1.33 mm3 for evaluating absorbed dose rate (c…

New quantum Monte Carlo formulation for modeling trans-polyacetylene properties: specific heat calculation

2004

Abstract In this paper we propose a new hybridization scheme for numerical simulation based on the determinantal quantum Monte Carlo and analytical model to treat the vibration mode of one-dimensional trans -polyacetylene chain. We use both of the extended Hubbard model (EHM) and Peierls–Hubbard model to compute the specific heat for different assumptions. For both the two models, our results indicate that the behavior of the specific heat is characterized by a maximum. We also introduce the effect of dimerization through Peierls–Hubbard model. In this case it is found that the specific heat magnitude is slightly more important when compared to specific heat value found with the EHM case. M…

Non-consistent cell-average multiresolution operators with application to image processing

2016

In recent years different techniques to process signal and image have been designed and developed. In particular, multiresolution representations of data have been studied and used successfully for several applications such as compression, denoising or inpainting. A general framework about multiresolution representation has been presented by Harten (1996) 20. Harten's schemes are based on two operators: decimation, D , and prediction, P , that satisfy the consistency property D P = I , where I is the identity operator. Recently, some new classes of multiresolution operators have been designed using learning statistical tools and weighted local polynomial regression methods obtaining filters…

Development of a questionnaire to assay recalled liking for salt, sweet and fat

2012

Abstract Liking for a sweet, salty or fatty diet may induce overconsumption of simple carbohydrates, sodium or lipids. Measuring overall liking of the corresponding sensory sensations contributes to understanding the determinants of dietary behaviours. However, no standardized validated questionnaire assaying these sensations is currently available. In the present study, we developed a web-based questionnaire, “PrefQuest”, which measures recalled liking for the following four sensations: salt, fat and salt, sweet, fat and sweet. PrefQuest included four types of items: (1) liking for sweet, fatty-sweet and fatty-salty foods, (2) preferences in the level of seasoning by adding salt, sweetener…

The Italian version of the Depressive Experiences Questionnaire: psychometric properties and validation in students, community, and clinical groups

2017

The current study evaluated the psychometric properties of the Italian validation of the Depressive Experiences Questionnaire (DEQ), conceived as a measure of self-criticism and dependency, i.e. two personality factors acting, according to Blatt (2004), as risk factors for depression in particular and psychopathology in general. A series of standardized measures [Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II), DEQ, Symptom Checklist-90-R (SCL-90-R), Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory, 3rd edition (MCMI-III)] was administered to three samples (i.e., students, community and clinical). Factorial validity was evaluated along with convergent and predictive validity. In order to evaluate the reliability…

Metabolic flux understanding of Pichia pastoris grown on heterogenous culture media

2014

[EN] Within the emergent field of Systems Biology, mathematical models obtained from physical chemical laws (the so-called first principles-based models) of microbial systems are employed to discern the principles that govern cellular behaviour and achieve a predictive understanding of cellular functions. The reliance on this biochemical knowledge has the drawback that some of the assumptions (specific kinetics of the reaction system, unknown dynamics and values of the model parameters) may not be valid for all the metabolic possible states of the network. In this uncertainty context, the combined use of fundamental knowledge and data measured in the fermentation that describe the behaviour…

Consistencies of psychomotor styles in interpersonal tasks

1975

Abstract.— Interpersonal behaviour of individuals in five tasks (individual performance, two dyadic tasks, two small-group tasks) was videotaped and coded on 11 psychomotor categories concerning (a) movements regulating interaction, (b) indications of tension, and (c) temperamental acts. The individual consistencies were examined on the basis of correlational analyses and task similarities. The consistency of individual psychomotor behaviour across all the tasks was highest in the number of selfinitiated acts (psychomotor activeness). Consistency was also found in the total tension score and the utilization of large/narrow space, while the effect of the particular tasks was clearly demonstr…

Factor Structure and Construct Validity of the Youth Psychopathic Traits Inventory and Its Shorten Version in Chinese Detained Boys

2019

The Youth Psychopathic Traits Inventory (YPI) was designed to assess psychopathic traits in adolescents. However, there exists limited evidence for the factor structure and psychometric properties of the YPI when used with Chinese detained juveniles. The present study aimed to examine the factor structure and construct validity of the YPI and its shortened version (YPI-S) in a sample of 607 Chinese 14- to 22-year-old detained boys (M = 17.15, SD = 1.09). Confirmatory factor analyses revealed a bifactor model which best fit the data at the subscale level for the YPI, and at the item level for the YPI-S. The internal consistency of the YPI and YPI-S scores ranged from marginal to good. Both t…

Ensuring the Consistency of Biosimilars

2017

Background: Biological products are subject to constant reappraisal by regulatory agencies and pharmaceutical companies once they have entered the market, since every improvement in their manufacturing process has the potential to alter the basic properties of these molecules. Methods: Narrative review focusing on scientific literature as well as legal documents from regulatory agencies. Results: Evaluating the impact of each manufacturing change of these drugs requires rigorous analyses in proportion to the anticipated risk of inducing more or less molecular micro-heterogenicity. There are currently more than 30 biosimilars of TNF-alpha blockers at different stages of testing, each with a …

The Social Exclusion Bench Tool (SEBT): A visual way of assessing interpersonal social exclusion

2021

People usually prefer to appear with an inclusive and positive attitude to others’ eyes. For this reason, the self-report scales assessing social exclusion intentions are often biased by social desirability. In this work, we present an innovative graphical tool, named Social Exclusion Bench Tool (SEBT), for assessing social exclusion not influenced by social desirability. The tool is based on the consistency between social distance and physical distance evaluation. The results showed that in two samples of adults from Italy (N = 252) and the UK (N = 254), the SEBT positively correlated with self-report measures of social exclusion, but not with the social desirability measure. The tool has …
