Bortezomib induction, reduced-intensity transplantation, and lenalidomide consolidation-maintenance for myeloma: updated results.
2013
A sequential approach including bortezomib induction, intermediate-dose melphalan, and autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT), followed by lenalidomide consolidation-maintenance, has been evaluated. Efficacy and safety data have been analyzed on intention-to-treat and results updated. Newly diagnosed myeloma patients 65 to 75 years of age (n = 102) received 4 cycles of bortezomib-pegylated liposomal doxorubicin-dexamethasone, tandem melphalan (100 mg/m(2)) followed by ASCT (MEL100-ASCT), 4 cycles of lenalidomide-prednisone consolidation (LP), and lenalidomide maintenance (L) until disease progression. The complete response (CR) rate was 33% after MEL100-ASCT, 48% after LP and 53% after…
Post-transplant consolidation based on combination of lenalidomide and proteasome inhibitors in multiple myeloma
2021
Multiple myeloma (MM) is a hematological malignancy due to uncontrolled proliferation of neoplastic plasma cells in the bone marrow, associated to chromosomal instability and cytogenetic abnormalities, which could have an impact on prognosis. Response to treatment and survival of newly diagnosed myeloma patients is heterogeneous, with median overall survival ranging from two to more than ten years, due to clinical and biological factors. To warrant long-term control of disease, several strategies have been proposed in the last years, including short-term high-dose of treatment, named as consolidation, before maintenance. This review will discuss the role of consolidation in the current myel…
Gadd45α modulates aversive learning through post‐transcriptional regulation of memory‐related mRNA s
2018
Abstract Learning is essential for survival and is controlled by complex molecular mechanisms including regulation of newly synthesized mRNAs that are required to modify synaptic functions. Despite the well‐known role of RNA‐binding proteins (RBPs) in mRNA functionality, their detailed regulation during memory consolidation is poorly understood. This study focuses on the brain function of the RBP Gadd45α (growth arrest and DNA damage‐inducible protein 45 alpha, encoded by the Gadd45a gene). Here, we find that hippocampal memory and long‐term potentiation are strongly impaired in Gadd45a‐deficient mice, a phenotype accompanied by reduced levels of memory‐related mRNAs. The majority of the Ga…
Halloysite nanotubes as sustainable nanofiller for paper consolidation and protection
2014
We investigated the filling process of cellulose-based paper with natural clay nanotubes and their mixtures with hydroxypropyl cellulose (HPC) that is commonly used as glue and consolidant for degraded paper. A comprehensive characterization of the materials was carried out through morphology, wettability, thermal degradation, and tensile properties. The treatment with halloysite nanotubes generated a decrease of the paper mechanical performance and did not alter the thermal properties. The co-presence of HPC and nanoparticles generated a more uniform nanotubes distribution in the paper fibrous structure and a significant enhancement of both the mechanical properties and the surface hydroph…
Adenosine and memory storage
1999
Rationale: Caffeine is a non-selective A1/A2 adenosine receptor antagonist which is known to improve cognitive performance in humans. This effect of caffeine has been attributed to its antagonism of adenosine receptors. Objective: The present study was devised to identify the role of A1 and A2A adenosine receptors in the facilitation of memory consolidation in mice performing a passive avoidance task. Methods: Adult albino Swiss male mice were used. The mice were trained in a step-through inhibitory avoidance task in which they were punished by a foot-shock (0.4 mA, 5 Hz, for 3 s) delivered through the grid floor. Caffeine (0.1, 0.3, 1.0 and 3.0 mg/kg), SCH 58261 (0.1, 0.3, 1.0 and 3.0 mg/k…
Spanish Fascism as a Political Religion (1931–1941)
2011
This article focuses on the controversial argument that Spanish Fascism, organized in the political party Falange Espanola (FE y de las JONS), can be interpreted as a form of political religion, understood in the sense of Emilio Gentile. The central thesis is that Spanish Fascism was a political religion during the Republican period, that is, from the time of its consolidation during the early 1930s to the beginning of the Civil War. However – and this is the main analytical challenge – it was also one after July 1936, in spite of the fact that the formation of Franco's Movimiento Nacional imposed no small transformations upon it. Even if those transformations were linked to the increasingl…
Comparison between mercury intrusion porosimetry and nuclear magnetic resonance relaxometry to study the pore size distribution of limestones treated…
2019
Abstract Pore-space properties, such as pore-size distribution and connected porosity, are relevant factors in the evaluation of the performance of a consolidation treatment. In this study, two different techniques – Mercury Intrusion Porosimetry (MIP) and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Relaxometry (NMRR) – were adopted to study the compatibility and the efficacy of a new consolidation product for limestones. This work aims at comparing and combining data obtained by MIP and NMRR; to confirm the relationship between the quantitative results of MIP and the qualitative ones of NMRR, a calibration which leads to correlate T2 distribution and pore size distribution has been applied. Experimental re…
International student mobility in Southern-Latin Europe: beyond the EU logics, towards a new space
2018
This paper discusses international student mobility (ISM) in Southern-Latin Europe, specifically Italy, Portugal, and Spain, analysing the inflow of international students as reflected in the UNESCO, OECD and European Commission databases. Only recently Italy, Portugal and Spain, as latecomers, have become more actively involved in ISM dynamics. This trend has been a response to EU pressures to internationalization, instrumented through the consolidation of the Bologna process and the need to build a common space of higher education. The analysis shows that at the intra-European level Italy, Portugal and Spain share similar ISM patterns; however, in the global context other logics shape ISM…
Rafael l. Ninyoles: Recorregut biogràfic i intel·lectual
2020
This article presents the biography and intellectual legacy of Valencian sociologist Rafael L. Ninyoles (1943- 2019). It reviews his formative itinerary, his early contributions to the field of the sociology of language, his latest contributions to the sociology of cities and cultural spaces, and his key involvement in the promoti-on and consolidation of the sociological study of Valencian society. The article includes a note on public acknowledgements to the author, plus an annex with a selective bibliography aimed at serving the interested reader and the posthumous diffusion of Ninyoles? oeuvre.
Projectual efficacy of the analytical action: radar survey and historical architecture
2014
