Hippocampal electrical stimulation disrupts associative learning when targeted at dentate spikes

KEY POINTS Dentate spikes are fast fluctuations of hilar local-field potentials that take place during rest and are thought to reflect input arriving from the entorhinal cortex to the hippocampus. During dentate spikes, neuronal firing in hippocampal input (dentate gyrus) and output (CA1/CA3) regions is uncoupled. To date, the behavioural significance of dentate spikes is unknown. Here, we provide evidence that disrupting the dentate spike-related uncoupling of the dentate gyrus and the CA1/CA3 subregions for 1 h after training retards associative learning. Temperature control during Spark Plasma Sintering and application to up-scaling and complex shaping

International audience; The determination and the homogeneity of the sample temperature during consolidation of powders by Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS) are addressed. Densifications were carried out in three different facilities differing by their constructors and their size. A structural transformation activated in a TiAl alloy was used as a marker of the sample temperature and finite element modeling were performed to evaluate the temperature at each point of the set-up. Bifurcations in business profitability: An agent-based simulation of homophily in self-financing groups

Abstract Formal financial institutions inadequately distribute startup capital to business ventures of ethnic minorities, women, low-educated, and young people. Self-financing groups fill this gap because in these associations agents accumulate their savings into a fund that is later used to provide loans to the members. This study builds and simulates an agent-based model that compares the profitability of businesses started by members of self-financing groups against businesses financed by commercial loans. Processing conditions, microstructure and mechanical properties of hetero-nanostructured ODS FeAl alloys produced by spark plasma sintering

International audience; Spark plasma sintering (SPS) has been used to sinter a milled oxide dispersion-strengthened (ODS) FeAl powder in order to prepare dense nanostructured parts. The effect of processing conditions including sintering temperature, holding time and degassing treatments on the microstructure and mechanical properties of the as-sintered materials was investigated. A hetero-nanostructure that contains nano, ultrafine and micrometric grains was confirmed to be developed whatever the processing window, due to the large temperature difference generated during the SPS process itself.
