Hydration of tricalcium aluminate in the presence of various amounts of calcium sulphite hemihydrate : Conductivity tests.
2006
Abstract Hydration of calcium aluminate C3A (3CaO·Al2O3) in the presence of calcium sulphite hemihydrate (CaSO3·0.5H2O), with the molar ratio of substrates close to 1, produces the C3A·CaSO3·11H2O calcium monosulphite aluminate phase. Small amounts of calcium sulphite added to calcium aluminate (the ratio of CaSO3·0.5H2O / C3A equalling 0 : 1) change the rate of C3A hydration and influence the whole reaction. Reaction processes for various ratios of the C3A–CaSO3·0.5H2O mixture were examined in pure distilled water with a considerable amount of liquid W / S = 38–50 (constant W / C3A). Processes in the liquid phase were monitored with conductivity equipment, and the XRD analysis was used to …

Ceramide Mediates Acute Oxygen Sensing in Vascular Tissues
2014
AbstractAims: A variety of vessels, such as resistance pulmonary arteries (PA) and fetoplacental arteries and the ductus arteriosus (DA) are specialized in sensing and responding to changes in oxygen tension. Despite opposite stimuli, normoxic DA contraction and hypoxic fetoplacental and PA vasoconstriction share some mechanistic features. Activation of neutral sphingomyelinase (nSMase) and subsequent ceramide production has been involved in hypoxic pulmonary vasoconstriction (HPV). Herein we aimed to study the possible role of nSMase-derived ceramide as a common factor in the acute oxygen-sensing function of specialized vascular tissues. Results: The nSMase inhibitor GW4869 and an anticera…
Computational identification of chemical compounds with potential anti-Chagas activity using a classification tree
2021
Chagas disease is endemic to 21 Latin American countries and is a great public health problem in that region. Current chemotherapy remains unsatisfactory; consequently the need to search for new drugs persists. Here we present a new approach to identify novel compounds with potential anti-chagasic action. A large dataset of 584 compounds, obtained from the Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative, was selected to develop the computational model. Dragon software was used to calculate the molecular descriptors and WEKA software to obtain the classification tree. The best model shows accuracy greater than 93.4% for the training set; the tree was also validated using a 10-fold cross-validation p…
Nonlocal (Pair Site) Reactivity from Second-Order Static Density Response Function: Gas- and Solution-Phase Reactivity of the Acetaldehyde Enolate a…
1999
A nonlocal (pair site) reactivity scheme is developed and tested. The theory is cast in terms of the first-order Fukui response function f(r,r‘), previously proposed by Fuentealba and Parr [J. Chem. Phys. 1991, 94, 5559]. A change of variables is introduced by using the softness s(r) and t(r) = [∂s(r)/∂N]υ(r) (the variation of softness with respect to the changes in the total number of electrons N at constant external potential υ(r)) that leads to a simple expression for the variation of the Fukui function at site k, namely = − for an electrophilic attack. The first term describes a local contribution, proportional to the variation of the electrostatic potential that can be induced, for exa…
On groups having a p-constant character
2020
Let G G be a finite group, and p p a prime number; a character of G G is called p p -constant if it takes a constant value on all the elements of G G whose order is divisible by p p . This is a generalization of the very important concept of characters of p p -defect zero. In this paper, we characterize the finite p p -solvable groups having a faithful irreducible character that is p p -constant and not of p p -defect zero, and we will show that a non- p p -solvable group with this property is an almost-simple group.
Electromagnetic transitions of heavy baryons in theSU(2Nf)⊗O(3)symmetry
2001
We apply heavy quark symmetry to the radiative decays of heavy baryons. Even with this symmetry in place there are too many couplings to make a meaningful set of predictions. We show that if, in addition, light-diquark symmetries are applied, the number of electromagnetic couplings among S wave and P wave states as well as those between P wave to S wave transitions can be reduced significantly. Using this constituent quark model picture a number of predictions are made that will be testable in the near future.
Speciation of Al3+ in fairly concentrated solutions (20 to 200 mmol L-1) at I = 1 mol L-1 (NaNO3), in the acidic pH range, at different temperatures.
2011
AbstractThe hydrolysis of Al3+ was studied in aqueous 1 mol L−1 NaNO3 solution at different concentrations (20–200 mmol L−1) and temperatures (283.15–343.15 K) by potentiometry (ISE-H+, glass electrode). Many different speciation models were considered in the calculations and it was found that the best model is represented by the following species: Al(OH)2+, Al(OH)45+, Al13(OH)327+. Hydrolysis constants and enthalpy changes at different temperatures are reported.
Gluconate and hexitols effects on C-S-H solubility
2021
This study investigates the effect of gluconate, a carboxylate ion, and three uncharged hexitols, D-sorbitol, D-mannitol and D-galactitol on the solubility of C-S-H. Thermodynamic modeling was used to determine the kind and amount of Ca-organic-silicate-OH complexes that potentially form in the conditions studied. All the organics form complexes with calcium and hydroxide, In addition, heteropolynuclear organics complexes with calcium, hydroxide and silicate are observed at high pH values and high calcium concentrations with the exception of mannitol. The strength of complexation with silicate decreases from gluconate > sorbitol > galactitol. The adsorption of the selected organics on…
Microstructure–property relation and machine learning prediction of hole expansion capacity of high-strength steels
2021
Abstract The relationship between microstructure features and mechanical properties plays an important role in the design of materials and improvement of properties. Hole expansion capacity plays a fundamental role in defining the formability of metal sheets. Due to the complexity of the experimental procedure of testing hole expansion capacity, where many influencing factors contribute to the resulting values, the relationship between microstructure features and hole expansion capacity and the complexity of this relation is not yet fully understood. In the present study, an experimental dataset containing the phase constituents of 55 microstructures as well as corresponding properties, su…
