The effect of simulation exercises on the control of aggressive behaviour in children

.— The subjects consisted of two. matched, extremely aggressive (experimental = ExG and control = CoG) groups of twelve 8–year-old boys. and of one criterion group (CrG) of extrovert, well-controlled boys. Video-tape recording of behaviour was used both in pretest (T1) and post-test (T2). Between T1 and T2 the ExG was submitted to simulation exercises of 8 lessons given in a period of four weeks. The exercises consisted in social problem solutions on the purely cognitive (imaginary and symbolic) level and in role-playing (behavioral level). The idea that the verb is always the sentence core (verbocentrism) has a long history. In the last century a number of researchers started doubting it. This book shows some of the reasons why verbs should not some times be considered the kernel of a sentence. The investigated constructions come from Italian and English and have properties which clearly derive from the post-verbal noun. Some new arguments are presented, in relation to copulative constructions, support verb constructions, and serial verbs. The overall picture which these investigations produce show first how weak verbocentrism is and, second, how verbocentrism can be easily overcome.

Reinforced concrete (RC) jacketing is becoming increasingly common among the different retrofit techniques for poor RC members, due to its economical and practical advantages. Experimental investigations in the literature have shown that the actual axial capacity of RC jacketed members can be substantially lower than that analytically evaluated by adapting the most common theoretical models for confined concrete. Effects of confinement level, cross-section shape and corner radius on the cyclic behavior of CFRCM confined concrete columns

Abstract The main results of an experimental research aiming to investigate the behavior of medium-size low-strength concrete columns wrapped with Carbon Fiber Reinforced Cementitious Matrix (CFRCM) under monotonic and cyclic compressive axial loads are presented. Thirty columns with circular, square and rectangular cross-sections were tested under monotonic and cyclic axial loads to investigate the effect of the confinement level, the cross-section shape and the corner radius on the stiffness, strength, and ductility of CFRCM confined concrete columns under cyclic loads. CT coronary angiography at an ultra-low radiation dose (< 0.1 mSv): feasible and viable in times of constraint on healthcare costs

Computed tomography coronary angiography (CTCA) has reached very high standards both in terms of diagnostic performance and radiation dose reduction. This commentary follows a report on CTCA using less than 0.1 mSv in selected patients. This is an extraordinary accomplishment, both for technology and for medicine. The difficult task is now to implement this tool in clinical practice so it can play the best possible role. CTCA can improve diagnostic pathways, can save money for healthcare systems and could even improve pharmacological therapy. A New Approach To The Identification Of Cognitive Conflicts In The Repertory Grid: An Illustrative Case Study

Abstract The concept of cognitive conflicts and its relation to the success of psychoanalytically oriented psychotherapy are discussed. According to this model of therapy, patients should achieve insight into their conscious as well as unconscious conflicts. Therefore in the present study we assumed that demonstrable cognitive changes would occur over treatment for chronic pain, as measured by Kelly's (1955) Repertory Grid Test. Grids were analyzed with regard to conflicts on the basis of the concept of unbalanced triads. Flexural behavior of corroded RC beams

Synopsis: A handily model to evaluate the bending resistance and the ductility of corroded beams critical in flexure and shear is proposed and debated. Effects of diffused and pitting corrosion on steel bars, compressive concrete strength reduction and concrete bond strength reduction due to rust creation are modelled. Practical method derived on limit state theory was here used to calculate the flexural and shear strength and the available ductility. The effectiveness of the model was also corroborated against numerous results collected in the literature pertaining to bending and shear resistance.
