The power of procrastination in inductive inference: How it depends on used ordinal notations

1995

We consider inductive inference with procrastination. Usually it is defined using constructive ordinals. For constructive ordinals there exist many different systems of notations. In this paper we study how the power of inductive inference depends on used system of notations.

Towards a Comprehensive Understanding of Body Image: Integrating Positive Body Image, Embodiment and Self-Compassion.

2021

Body image (BI) disturbance is a relevant factor in the etiology and treatment of eating disorders (ED). Although progress has been made in recent decades in understanding BI and its relationship with ED, the efficacy of BI disturbance prevention and intervention programs is still limited. In order to reach deeper understanding of BI disturbance and clarify the interactions between some protective and risk factors related to this construct, we carried out a literature review on some specific BI-related factors that so far have been analyzed independently. We specifically examined positive and negative BI; embodiment and its role in the development of positive and negative BI; and self-compa…

Automata and forbidden words

1998

Abstract Let L ( M ) be the (factorial) language avoiding a given anti-factorial language M . We design an automaton accepting L ( M ) and built from the language M . The construction is effective if M is finite. If M is the set of minimal forbidden words of a single word ν, the automaton turns out to be the factor automaton of ν (the minimal automaton accepting the set of factors of ν). We also give an algorithm that builds the trie of M from the factor automaton of a single word. It yields a nontrivial upper bound on the number of minimal forbidden words of a word.

Minimal forbidden words and factor automata

1998

International audience; Let L(M) be the (factorial) language avoiding a given antifactorial language M. We design an automaton accepting L(M) and built from the language M. The construction is eff ective if M is finite. If M is the set of minimal forbidden words of a single word v, the automaton turns out to be the factor automaton of v (the minimal automaton accepting the set of factors of v). We also give an algorithm that builds the trie of M from the factor automaton of a single word. It yields a non-trivial upper bound on the number of minimal forbidden words of a word.

The Role of Consulting Services in Promoting Competitive Culture

2019

Maintaining a normal competitive environment on the market is the core objective of the competition authorities. Policies and regulations applied in pursuit of this purpose have the role of identifying and eliminating situations of constraint on free competition. The developing market of Moldova is characterized by a low level of the competitive culture. Therefore, the business community have few knowledge and understanding of  competition policies and regulations, relatively new in this market. In other cases, the lack of cooperation with competition authorities leads to erroneous information and ineffective decisions. In this context, the consultancy in the field of competition presents o…

Multiple Crack Localization and Debonding Mechanisms for Thin Thermal Coating Films

2020

Experimental tests, carried out on small scale alloy specimens covered on one side with a thin thermal coating, have shown complex failure mechanisms. The failure mechanisms observed are due to the competition between two fracture mechanisms. The two mechanisms are: (i) Vertical tensile coating surface cracks and (ii) debonding shear decohesion mechanisms along the interface between the coating and the substrate. The present paper analyzes the mechanical problem of the nonlinear behavior thin film on a stiff substrate adopting a computational approach. Namely, incremental 2D nonlinear finite element simulations. The stiff superalloy substrate is modeled as a thermo-elastic material. The coa…

On the classification of large residential buildings stocks by sample typologies for energy planning purposes

2014

Local and central administrations are often called to properly allocate economic resources intended for the territorial energy planning, on the basis of the performances achieved by implementing energy conservation measures. Particularly in the residential sector, that represents one of the most relevant sector for the energy demand, effective and reliable evaluation tools are required for this aim. Unfortunately, building stocks are characterized by a very large number of buildings that are referred to different construction periods and are equipped with a variety of appliances and tools, other than with different heating and cooling systems. This means that the whole energy consumption of…

Measurement of the Convective Heat-Transfer Coefficient

2014

We propose an experiment for investigating how objects cool down toward the thermal equilibrium with its surrounding through convection. We describe the time dependence of the temperature difference of the cooling object and the environment with an exponential decay function. By measuring the thermal constant tau, we determine the convective heat-transfer coefficient, which is a characteristic constant of the convection system.

The KeV Majoron as a dark matter particle

1993

We consider a very weakly interacting KeV majoron as dark matter particle (DMP), which provides both the critical density $\rho_{cr} = 1.88 \times 10^{-29} h^{2}$ $g/cm^{3}$ and the galactic scale $M_{gal}$ $\sim m^{3}_{Pl}/m^{2}_{J} \sim 10^{12} M_{\odot} (m_{J}/1 KeV)^{-2}$ for galaxy formation. The majoron couples to leptons only through some new "directly interacting particles", called DIPS, and this provides the required smallness of the coupling constants. If the masses of these DIPS are greater than the scale $V_s$ characterizing the spontaneous violation of the global lepton symmetry they are absent at the corresponding phase transition ($T \sim V_s$) and the majorons are produced d…

Transition probabilities for some infrared O I spectral lines—Application for determining excitation temperatures in low temperature plasmas

2008

Intensities of selected spectral transitions of neutral oxygen emitted from a wall-stabilized arc have been measured. Applying reliable transition probability data taken from literature, Boltzmann plots have been constructed and the temperatures of the plasma have been obtained. At arc plasma conditions ensuring partial local thermal equilibrium, transition probabilities for 4 O I spectral lines from the near infrared spectral range have been obtained. These new results, together with data for two other studied O I spectral lines taken from the National Institute of Standards and Technology data base, are proposed as a suitable set of transition probabilities applicable for diagnostics of l…
