Early detection of Toxoplasma infection by molecular monitoring of Toxoplasma gondii in peripheral blood samples after allogeneic stem cell transplan…

2004

International audience; Background. Isolated case reports have shown that recipients of allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplants ( HSCTs) who develop toxoplasmosis may have circulating Toxoplasma gondii DNA in peripheral blood before the onset of clinical symptoms. Methods. We prospectively studied 106 T. gondii - seropositive adult recipients of HSCTs for the incidence of reactivation of toxoplasmosis in the first 6 months after transplantation. Toxoplasmosis infection ( TI) was defined by a positive result of polymerase chain reaction ( PCR) of peripheral blood specimens, whereas toxoplasmosis disease ( TD) was defined as an invasive infection. Results. The incidence of TI was 16% (…

Validity of instruments for measuring the satisfaction of a woman and her partner with care received during labour and childbirth: Systematic review.

2017

Abstract Background patient satisfaction as an indicator of quality of care is becoming more and more important. The use of questionnaires is the most common method to evaluate satisfaction with maternity care. Despite the extensive variety of instruments available for this purpose, they vary widely in terms of their content and quality. Objectives to identify, assess and summarize the most recent and robust instruments available to measure woman and partner satisfaction with the overall package of care during the labour and birth of their baby within a hospital setting. Design systematic review. Methods sixteen electronic databases were consulted. The research also included hand searching …

Long-term evaluation of quality of life and gastrointestinal well-being after segmental colo-rectal resection for deep infiltrating endometriosis (EN…

2019

Purposes: The primary objective is to assess the long-term quality of life (QoL) and gastrointestinal well-being in patients with endometriosis (DIE) who underwent segmental resection (SR), through specific questionnaires focused on endometriosis and specific gastrointestinal evaluation. The secondary objectives are represented by the evaluation of peri-operative and post-operative outcomes of the procedure. Methods: This observational cohort study ENDO-RESECT (ClinicalTrials.gov ID: NCT03824054) reports all clinical data about women who underwent SR for DIE between October 2005 and November 2017. In the part of the study dedicated to the QoL assessment, the questionnaires adopted were the …

Reliability and variability of bioimpedance measures in normal adults: Effects of age, gender, and body mass

2003

This study aimed to analyze the reliability and evaluate the causes of variability of bioimpedance parameters. Direct measures were analyzed because they are not affected by inappropriate prediction models. Resistance (R), reactance (Xc), and phase angle (PA) were determined at three fixed frequencies (5, 50, and 100 kHz) in 653 normal Germans (244 males and 409 females), aged 20-90 years, using a phase-sensitive whole-body tetrapolar bioimpedance analyzer (BIA 2000-M, Data Input, Germany). From these values, six bioimpedance ratios were calculated (R(5)/R(50), R(5)/R(100), Xc(5)/Xc(50), Xc(5)/Xc(100), PA(5)/PA(50), and PA(5)/PA(100)). Reliability of duplicate measurements, as determined by…

Reconstructive surgery following resection of primary vulvar cancers.

2005

Objective. This study describes the surgical treatment and follow-up of 213 patients with primary vulvar cancer; particular attention is given to reconstructive surgical procedures. Methods. The clinical and pathological parameters of the patients were recorded according to standardized procedures, and the data concerning type of operation, surgical reconstruction and postoperative course of disease (recurrence-free and overall survival) were analyzed. Results. In about one-third of the cases, plastic surgery reconstruction involving skin-flaps was performed. In the present group of patients, plastic surgery procedures led to an elevated degree of operability as well as to more satisfactory…

Innervated Island Flaps in Morphofunctional Vulvar Reconstruction

2000

In this article, the authors present their own experience in vulvar reconstruction following vulvectomy using two different innervated island flaps according to the size and site of the defect. Island-flap mobilization is possible thanks to the rich blood supply of the perineal region. The methods described are a "V-Y amplified sliding flap from the pubis" and a "fasciocutaneous island flap" raised from one or both gluteal folds. The V-Y amplified sliding flap from the pubis is indicated when the defect is symmetric and located anteriorly. This flap is harvested from the pubis and vascularized by the deep arterial network of the pubis. Sensory innervation is provided by branches of the ileo…

Salvage (tertiary) breast reconstruction after implant failure

2011

Summary Background Salvage breast reconstruction is defined as a complete revision of a previous reconstruction in case of unsatisfactory results or failure of primary or secondary breast reconstruction. We have termed this ‘tertiary breast reconstruction'. This article presents our experience with tertiary reconstructions, including the indications, method of reconstruction and outcomes. Methods A retrospective note review was performed for all patients who underwent breast reconstruction with autologous tissue under one surgeon between 2002 and 2009 at the University Hospital, Ghent. Out of these 688 patients, 54 patients (7.8%) required tertiary surgery with autologous tissue after failu…

‘I was young, I wanted to return to sport, and re-ruptured my ACL’ – young active female patients’ voices on the experience of sustaining an ACL re-r…

2022

Abstract Background Despite anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) re-ruptures being common, research on patient experiences after knee trauma has primarily focused on the time after primary ACL reconstruction. Integrating qualitative research and patient experiences can facilitate researchers and clinicians in understanding the burden of an ACL re-rupture. The aim of the study was to explore the experiences of an ACL re-rupture journey in young active females aiming to return to knee-strenuous sports after primary ACL reconstruction. Method Fifteen young (19[range 16–23] years old) active females who suffered an ACL re-rupture were interviewed with semi-structured interviews. Qualitative content…

Careless responses and construct validity of Wong-Law Emotional Intelligence Scale.

2021

Careless response in the investigation of emotional intelligence has not been explicitly addressed. In a sample of 180 Spanish adults responding to the Wong-Law Emotional Intelligence Scale, a small prevalence (7.2%) was detected. The impact was small on the psychometric parameters, but they were less inflated, more realistic, and precise.
