A change in momentum will inevitably perturb the all-embracing vacuum, whose reaction we understand as inertia. Since the vacuum's physical properties relate to light, we propose that the vacuum embodies photons, but in pairs without net electromagnetic fields. Kinetics of the intestinal uptake of zinc acexamate in normal and zinc-depleted rats.

Abstract The uptake of zinc as acexamic acid salt in the small intestine of the anaesthetized rat was shown to be a two-phase process in normal animals. The first phase is rapid mucosal binding which satisfies the Freundlich isotherm equation and which involves about 30 per cent of the initially perfused zinc. The second phase was characterized as an apparent absorption step which obeys Michaelis-Menten and first-order combined kinetics, with the following parameters: Vm = 6.51 mg h−1; Km = 2.96 mg; ka = 0.306 h−1. Synthesis of polymeric derivatives of isoniazid: characterization and in vitro release from a water-soluble adduct with polysuccinimide.

Coupling of isoniazid with polysuccinimide afforded a water-insoluble polymeric pro-drug; by reaction with ethanolamine it was chemically transformed in a water-soluble adduct. The in vitro release of isoniazid from the drug-polymer adduct was studied by using an artificial stomach wall lipid membrane. The transfer rate constant from simulated gastric juice to simulated plasma was defined and compared with that of an equivalent dose of pure drug.

A family of azo and stilbene derivatives (1-9) are synthesized, and their chromo-fluorogenic behavior in the presence of nerve-agent simulants, diethylchlorophosphate (DCP), diisopropylfluorophosphate (DFP), and diethylcyanophosphate (DCNP) in acetonitrile and mixed solution of water/acetonitrile (3:1 v/v) buffered at pH 5.6 with MES, is investigated. Kinetics and mechanism of group transfer polymerization of N-butyl acrylate catalyzed by Hgl2 /(CH3 )3 Sil in toluene

The group transfer polymerization (GTP) of n-butyl acrylate (nBuA) using 1-methoxy-1-(trimethylsiloxy)-2-methyl-1-propene (MTS) as an initiator, mercuric iodide (HgI2) as a catalyst in toluene at room temperature gives a very good control of molecular weight and narrow molecular weight distribution. (Mw/Mn < 1.2). Kinetic studies in this system reveal that this reaction is rather slow, half-lives being in the range of hours. The kinetic order of the apparent rate constant of propagation with respect to initiator and catalyst concentrations were found to be near to unity. Studies on the acid-base properties and solubility of a polyammonium polyelectrolyte (chitosan) with different molecular weights (MW 310 and 50 kDa), were performed at T=25 °C, in the pH range 2.5–7. The protonation of chitosan was investigated by potentiometry ([H+]-glass electrode) in NaCl, NaNO3 and mixed NaNO3+Na2SO4 ionic media, at different ionic strengths. Protonation constants were calculated as a function of dissociation degree α by means of two different models, namely, a simple linear model and the modified Henderson–Hasselbalch equation. Hydrolysis and chemical speciation of dioxouranium(VI) ion in aqueous media simulating the major ion composition of seawater

Abstract The hydrolysis and chemical speciation of the dioxouranium(VI) ion at 25 °C was studied in a number of binary electrolytes (LiCl, NaCl, MgCl2, CaCl2, Na2SO4) and some mixtures (NaCl–Na2SO4, NaNO3–Na2SO4, CaCl2–MgCl2) as well as artificial seawater (SSWE) as a function of ionic strength. The results in LiCl, CaCl2 and MgCl2 solutions confirmed the formation of (UO2)2(OH)22+, (UO2)3(OH)42+, (UO2)3(OH)5+ and (UO2)3(OH)7− species (at I=0 mol l−1: log Tβ22=−5.76, log Tβ34=−11.82, log Tβ35=−15.89 and log Tβ37=−29.26). A series expansion of the extended Debye-H�ckel equation and application to linear prediction of stability constants

The Debye-Hückel semiempirical extended equation is frequently used to calculate activity coefficients of chemical species and equilibrium constants at ionic strengths different from those used in their experimental evaluation. A series expansion of the extended Debye-Hückel equation is proposed here and checked with experimental data taken from the literature. The expansion is linear in the ionic parameters and yields a geometrical series which converges rapidly and that enables the accurate calculation of interpolated and extrapolated activity coefficients and equilibrium constants by simple and multiple linear regression without previous knowledge of the ionic parameters.
