This work describes the synthesis, and structural, spectroscopic, and theoretical studies of a mononuclear silver(i) complex with the formula [Ag(Xantphos)(4,4'-(MeO)2-2,2'-bipy)]BF4·DCM (1·BF4) [Xantphos: 4,5-bis(diphenylphosphino)-9,9'-dimethylxanthene]. We provide meaningful insights into the enhancement of the photoluminescence features of this silver(i) complex compared to its copper(i) analogue.
σ-Hammett parameter: a strategy to enhance both photo- and electro-luminescence features of heteroleptic copper(i) complexes

This work studies the effect of the σ-Hammett parameter (σp) – i.e., the σ-donation effect caused by substitution at the para position of a bipyridine ligand (4,4′-R2bipy, where R is MeO, Me, H, NO2) – on both the photo- and electro-luminescence features of a series of heteroleptic copper(I) complexes – i.e., [Cu(N^N)(P^P)]+ where N^N and P^P ligands are R2bipy and Xantphos, respectively. Photovoltaic module characteristics from CIGS solar cell modelling

We describe our approach to the task of modelling, both at single cell structure and complete module levels, during the solar cell technology development process. This can give very helpful indications, in terms of global photovoltaic module characteristics, for the assessment of intermediate research results and planning of further experiments. We make reference specifically to the fabrication of thin film CIGS solar cells by means of single-step electrodeposition, a technique which appears fairly easy and low-cost but, at the same time, can lead to quite different structural and electrical properties.
Direct measurement of the electron‐phonon relaxation rate in thin copper films

We have used normal metal-insulator-superconductor (NIS) tunnel junction pairs, known as SINIS structures, for ultrasensitive thermometry at sub-Kelvin temperatures. With the help of these thermometers, we have developed an ac-technique to measure the electron-phonon (e-p) scattering rate directly, without any other material or geometry dependent parameters, based on overheating the electron gas. The technique is based on Joule heating the electrons in the frequency range DC-10 MHz, and measuring the electron temperature in DC. Electron-phonon interaction in thin copper and gold films

We have studied the electron-phonon (e-p) interaction in thin Cu and Au films at sub-Kelvin temperatures with the help of the hot electron effect, using symmetric normal metal-insulator-superconductor tunnel junction pairs as thermometers. By Joule heating the electron gas and measuring the electron and the lattice temperatures simultaneously, we show that the electron-phonon scattering rate follows a $T^{4}$ temperature dependence in both metals. The result is in accordance with the theory of e-p scattering in disordered films with vibrating boudaries and impurities, in contrast to the $T^{3}$-law expected for pure samples, and $T^{2}$-law for static disorder.
Magnetostrictive and quadrupolar anisotropy in nuclear magnetic fcc systems

The spin hamiltonian for nuclear magnetic order in copper is investigated with respect to magnetoelastic couplings to the lattice. These arise due to the dipolar, Ruderman Kittel and the quadrupolar interaction. While the latter is quenched for the ideal fcc-lattice, it is found that for copper it will dominate the magnetoelastic terms of the nuclear spin hamiltonian. The absolute size of the quadrupole contribution is determined by the effective charge and (anti-) shielding effects. This interaction can give rise to an effective anisotropy in the fcc-system which can be quite large compared to the small stabilisation energies for nuclear order in copper. The compounds ${A}_{2}\mathrm{C}{\mathrm{u}}_{3}\mathrm{O}{(\mathrm{S}{\mathrm{O}}_{4})}_{3}$ $(A=\mathrm{Na},\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}\mathrm{K})$ are characterized by copper hexamers that are weakly coupled to realize antiferromagnetic order below ${T}_{N}\ensuremath{\approx}3\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}\mathrm{K}$. They constitute quantum spin systems with $S=1$ triplet ground states. We investigated the energy-level splittings of the copper hexamers by inelastic neutron scattering experiments covering the entire range of the magnetic excitation spectra. Abstract Neutron spectra from the decay of the β− delayed neutron precursors 55.6 sec 87Br, 24.5 sec 137I, 2.05 sec 85As and 1.71 sec 135Sb have been studied with high resolution 3He ionization chambers. By γ-ray measurements, the partial neutron emission probabilities to excited states in 84Se and 134Te have been determined independently. For the neutron-emitter nuclei 87Kr and 137Xe, from which neutron decay proceeds only to the ground states of the final nuclei, 86Kr and 136Xe, unique information on the shape of the β− strength function Sβ(E) is obtained. Production of the charmed baryon $\Lambda_{c}^{+}$ in $\pi^{-}$Cu and K$^{-}$Cu interactions at 230 GeV

Abstract We present results from the NA32 experiment at CERN on the production characteristics of the charmed baryon Λ+c in 230 GeV π−Cu and K−Cu interactions. A high resolution vertex detector consisting of change-coupled devices and silicon microstrip detectors allowed the selection of a very clean sample of 154 Λ+c → pK−π+ (and charge conjugate) decays. Results on differential and integrated cross sections are given.
