Physico-chemical properties of dense water/copper(II) bis(2-ethylhexyl) sulfosuccinate/CCl4 microemulsions

2007

Measurements of some physico-chemical properties (density, viscosity, conductance, infra-red spectra) of water/copper(II) bis(2-ethylhexyl) sulfosuccinate (Cu(DEHSS)2)/CCl4 microemulsions, as a function of the volume fraction O of the dispersed phase (0 < O < 0.6) and of the molar ratio R (R = [water]/[DEHSS−]), have been performed at 25 °C. At each value of R, the density of the micellar phase is practically independent of O whereas the viscosity of microemulsions diverges above threshold O values. A divergent behavior for the electrical conductivity has also been observed but only at certain R values. These results, together with those from infra-red spectra, suggest that in percolated mi…

Contribution of vitamin A to the oxidation resistance of human low density lipoproteins.

1995

This study investigated the antioxidant contribution of vitamin A in protecting human low density lipoprotein (LDL) against copper-stimulated oxidation. The presence of small amounts of retinol (0.033 ± 0.012 nmol/mol LDL) and retinyl palmitate (0.036 ± 0.021 nmol/mol LDL) was routinely ascertained in the LDL. A single oral supplementation with 20,000 IU vitamin A caused a two- to three-fold increase of retinol and retinyl palmitate in the LDL isolated 8 h after the supplementation. In comparison to autologous-control LDL, vitamin A-enriched LDL were more resistant to oxidation, as expressed both by a clear delay in the onset of lipid peroxidation and by a reduction of the rate of conjugate…

Spectrophotometric determination of vitamin C using the copper(II)-nioxime-ascorbic acid system following stabilization in a propylene glycol medium

1989

Abstract A spectrophotometric method for the determination of Vitamin C is proposed. The procedure is based on formation and stabilization of the ternary complex Cu(II)-nioxime-ascorbic acid in 80% ( v v ) propylene glycol-water medium. The method has a high degree of tolerance for the determination of ascorbic acid in the presence of other active substances or excipients likely to be present along with vitamin C in pharmaceutical formulations. The suggested method has proved to be rapid and precise and has been successfully applied to different commercial pharmaceutical preparations of vitamin C. Precision, measured on the relative standard deviation, did not exceed 0.73%.

<title>Second harmonic generation in selenium-metal structures</title>

2008

The article examines the processes of second harmonic generation (SHG) when selenium-metal (Cu) film structures are illuminated by femtosecond radiation (180 fs, 80 MHz) at wavelength 800 - 1000 nm. Selenium-copper structures were obtained by successive thermal evaporation of selenium and copper onto the glass substrate in vacuum. Microanalysis of the film composition was performed to determine amount of copper in thin films. The as-evaporated selenium-copper structures were crystallised by annealing in inert atmosphere at temperature 85°C. Just evaporated as well as annealed thin films were explored. The experiment was performed by confocal microscope [1] where the femtosecond radiation fr…

Sensory and chemical drivers of wine minerality aroma: An application to Chablis wines

2017

The goal of this work was to evaluate the effect of vineyard position on the minerality of wines and to establish relationships between minerality scores, sensory descriptors and chemical composition. Sensory analyses included minerality rating and free description performed by wine professionals under two conditions: orthonasal olfaction alone and global tasting. Chemical characterization included analysis of major and minor volatile compounds, volatile sulphur compounds, mercaptans, metals, anions and cations. Results showed a significant effect of the river bank on wine minerality scores only in the orthonasal olfaction condition, samples from the left being more mineral than those from …

Efficient growth of sub-micrometric MOF crystals inside the channels of AAO membranes

2013

International audience; A dynamic step-by-step methodology has been implemented to grow the HKUST-1 porous coordination polymer inside commercial anodic aluminium oxide membranes. Efficient crystal growth is achieved from the membrane inner walls and over the whole membrane thickness when copper acetate colloidal suspensions and benzene tricarboxylic acid solutions are forced to flow through the membrane. Sorption properties of the HKUST-1 embedded in membranes show selectivity for CO2 over CO, CH4, O2 and N2 similar to the bulk material.

Polyphenol Oxidases from Wine Grapes

2017

Wine is produced from grapes which contain enzymes forming unfavorable dark polymers such as melanin, oxidizing proteins, and phenols which may influence their functions. Here we focus on the class of type-3 copper proteins presenting new insights on the structure, the occurrence during the ripening process and during wine making. Then, the reactivity of the enzymes on polyphenols from wine grapes are discussed and the possible consequences on health.

Content Variation of Iron and Copper in Wine Obtained from Wine Vineyards Recas

2013

Abstract Wine grapes are brought to the center in baskets, plastic containers, wooden bene, or more modern like metal bene. From picking and transport can be transmitted to grapes, the iron or copper from all equipment on metal and after will be transmitted also to wines produced. It must therefore control of how was made the insulation of protective metal bene to avoid contact the metal with grapes. The aim of this work involves evaluating the content of iron and copper in wines and vineyards of Recas. The results indicated that the values determined by methods Photocolorimeters were within normal limits and revealed that the level of iron and copper in samples analyzed were not influenced…

Detection of bias errors in ETAASDetermination of copper in beer and wine samples

2005

A method that evidences changes in the shape of the absorbance profiles obtained by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry (ETAAS) is proposed. The method is based upon the apparent content curves model previously described for molecular spectroscopy and it permits the detection of possible sources of bias errors. Moreover, a procedure that allows to detect the existence of constant and/or proportional errors is also described. Both models has been applied to the determination of copper in wine and beer samples with and without pre-treatment of the samples. Results obtained evidence the usefulness of the proposed models.
