Characterization of [Cu]-MCM-41 by XPS and CO or NO adsorption heat measurements

We report the characterization of copper doped MCM-41 prepared by original direct synthesis by XPS and adsorption calorimetry of CO and NO, which are selective molecular probes for Cu(I) and Cu(II) respectively. Investigation of the nature of the copper ions in this particular calcined Cu-MCM-41 by NO adsorption calorimetry shows that two types of energetically distinct adsorption sites exist, meaning the presence of two populations of Cu(II) species differently coordinated to the silica surface in quasi-equimolar concentration, as ascertained by XPS data. Hexanuclear Cu3O–3Cu triazole-based units as novel core motifs for high nuclearity copper(ii) frameworks

Climate Over the Ages; Is the Environment Stable?

As described in Chaps. 3 and 4, the advent of oxygenic photosynthesis triggered worldwide environmental changes. A world that had been reductive passed over into a state in which free dioxygen was available in the oceans and the atmosphere. We have already described the likely catastrophic effects on an anaerobic biota, but the changes were much broader than that. Dioxygen in the seas led to major changes in seawater chemistry. Iron, which had previously been soluble as ferrous salts, was precipitated in the ferric form. Copper, which had been insoluble in the anaerobic ocean as cuprous sulphide (Cu+-state), now became moderately soluble in the cupric form (Cu++-state).

First principles slab calculations of the regular Cu/MgO(001) interface

Ab initio slab calculations are performed for the copper adhesion over magnesium ions on the perfect MgO(0 0 1) surface with 1/4 monolayer (ML), two types of 1/2 ML and 1 ML substrate coverages. Results of our calculations are compared with various experimental and theoretical data. Both small atomic polarization and charge redistribution give the dominant contributions to the physisorption bonding on a regular Cu/MgO(0 0 1) interface.

This study presents the use of quaternary ammonium bromides as additives in N-methylformamide (NMF) for the separation and quantification of chelating agents as copper complexes by capillary zone electrophoresis (CZE). The new quaternary ammonium bromides were synthesized in our laboratory and used for the first time for CZE applications performed in NMF media. Five new metal–organic compounds of formula An[Cu(mal)2(H2O)m] (A being an amine cation and H2mal = malonic acid) have been structurally and magnetically characterized. The crystal structure of these compounds consists of an alternation of malonate-containing copper(II) anionic and amine cationic layers. Depending on the amine cation, the bis(malonate)cuprate(II) units can be connected to other units through carboxylate bridges resulting in anionic networks which exhibit different topologies: monomers (2 and 5), layers (3 and 4) and three-dimensional structures (1). Synthesis, Characterization, and Properties of Some Copper( II ) Complexes of 2‐Pyridineformamide Thiosemicarbazone (HAm4DH)

Reactions between different copper(II) salts and 2-pyridineformamide thiosemicarbazone (HAm4DH) in neutral ethanolic media led to the formation of complexes with the formulae [Cu(HAm4DH)X2] (X = Cl or Br) (1, 2) and [Cu(HAm4DH)2]X2 (X = NO3 or ClO4) (3, 4). The same reactions carried out in the presence of triethylamine gave rise to new complexes with the general formulae [Cu(Am4DH)X] (X = Cl, Br, AcO, or NO3) (5–8), [Cu(H2O)(Am4DH)](ClO4) (9), and [Cu(Am4DH)2] (10), many of which were isolated with different molecules of crystallization and contain a deprotonated thiosemicarbazone (Am4DH). Electrochemistry nanometric patterning of MOF particles: Anisotropic metal electrodeposition in Cu/MOF

Abstract Electrodeposition of copper from Cu/MOF immersed into acetate buffer produces a quasi-periodic series of 10–20 nm sized laminae sandwiched within the pristine MOF lattice as monitored by voltammetry of microparticles/atomic force microscopy. This anisotropic patterning can be qualitatively described in terms of a highly orientation-dependent diffusion of electrons and charge-balancing electrolyte counterions in the MOF network.

Two novel double-stranded dicopper(II) metallacyclophanes of formula (nBu4N)4[Cu2(dpeba)2]·4MeOH·2Et2O (1) and (nBu4N)4[Cu2(tpeba)2]·12H2O (2) have been prepared by the Cu(II)-mediated self-assembly of the rigid ('rod-like') bridging ligands N,N'-4,4'-diphenylethynebis(oxamate) (dpeba) and N,N'-1,4-di(4-phenylethynyl)phenylenebis(oxamate) (tpeba), respectively. Dialyzability of iron, zinc, and copper of different types of infant formulas marketed in Spain

The bioavailability of trace elements in infant formulas is affected by different physiological and dietetic factors. In vitro methods based on element dialyzability have been proposed to estimate the bioavailability. Infant formulas of the same type but from different manufacturers can differ in the salt used for supplementation and in the contents of other components that can affect mineral bioavailability.
