Q-switching of an all-fiber ring laser based on in-fiber acousto-optic bandpass modulator2017

Active Q-switching of an all-fiber ring laser utilizing a novel in-fiber acousto-optic tunable bandpass filter (AOTBF) is reported. The transmission characteristics of the AOTBF are controlled by amplitude modulation of the acoustic wave; the device exhibits a 3-dB power insertion loss, 0.91-nm optical bandwidth, and 28-dB nonresonant light suppression. Cavity loss modulation is achieved by full acousto-optic mode re-coupling cycle induced by traveling flexural acoustic waves. When the acoustical signal is switched on, cavity losses are reduced, and then, laser emission is generated. C–H activation of aryl compounds directed by 2-sulfonylpyridine and 2-sulfanylpyridine moiety for the formation of C–X (X = F, Cl, Br, I) bonds was studied. First, the syntheses of thioethers (2-(arylsulfanyl)pyridines) and sulfones (2-(arylsulfonyl)pyridines) were necessary for the progress of this project. A C–S coupling catalyzed by palladium complexe between thioaryls and halogenated heterocycles was performed for the synthesis of thioethers. The effect of two cell division inhibiting herbicides on unialgal and mixed algal cultures was studied in laboratory tests. The herbicides studied were trifluralin (analytical grade) and the active ingredient as well as the preparation (80 % a.i.) of diphenamid. The three green algal species used were Selenastrum capricornutum PRINTZ, Scenedesmus quadricauda (TURP.) BREB., Oocystis parva W. et G. S. WEST. The response of algae to herbicides was determined by cell counting, and measured by turbidity (750 nm) and the 02-production of some of the treated cultures.
