Master's thesis Aquatic Ecology BIO500 - University of Agder 2017 Marine protected areas (MPAs) are valued for their conservation benefits to harvested species. However, potential benefits of MPAs to neighboring fisheries are less well-understood. This study quantifies how the European lobster (Homarus gammarus) and the fishery for this valued catch respond to the establishment of a relatively small (5.2 km2) MPA on the Norwegian Skagerrak coast. Abstract The numerical solution of nonlinear convection-diffusion equations with nonlocal flux by explicit finite difference methods is costly due to the local spatial convolution within the convective numerical flux and the disadvantageous Courant-Friedrichs-Lewy (CFL) condition caused by the diffusion term. More efficient numerical methods are obtained by applying second-order implicit-explicit (IMEX) Runge-Kutta time discretizations to an available explicit scheme for such models in Carrillo et al. Branch and bound for the cutwidth minimization problem

The cutwidth minimization problem consists of finding a linear arrangement of the vertices of a graph where the maximum number of cuts between the edges of the graph and a line separating consecutive vertices is minimized. We first review previous approaches for special classes of graphs, followed by lower bounds and then a linear integer formulation for the general problem. We then propose a branch-and-bound algorithm based on different lower bounds on the cutwidth of partial solutions. Additionally, we introduce a Greedy Randomized Adaptive Search Procedure (GRASP) heuristic to obtain good initial solutions. Full Wave Solution for Intel CPU With a Heat Sink for EMC Investigations

A CPU with a heat sink (e.g. Intel Pentium 4 and Intel Pentium dual core) is a challenging problem for EMC analysis. A Very Large Scale Integrated (VLSI) device was modelled using the Finite Element Method (FEM) frequency domain solver to obtain a 3D full wave solution. The electromagnetic (EM) radiation emitted from these high power microelectronic circuits connected to a heat sink was found to have resonant frequencies around 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz with reflection coefficients less than -19 dB and -8 dB respectively. Abstract We present solution of self-consistent equations for the N 3 LO nuclear energy density functional. We derive general expressions for the mean fields expressed as differential operators depending on densities and for the densities expressed in terms of derivatives of wave functions. These expressions are then specified to the case of spherical symmetry. We also present the computer program hosphe (v1.02), which solves the self-consistent equations by using the expansion of single-particle wave functions on the spherical harmonic oscillator basis. Abstract The Lax–Wendroff time discretization is an alternative method to the popular total variation diminishing Runge–Kutta time discretization of discontinuous Galerkin schemes for the numerical solution of hyperbolic conservation laws. The resulting fully discrete schemes are known as LWDG and RKDG methods, respectively. Although LWDG methods are in general more compact and efficient than RKDG methods of comparable order of accuracy, the formulation of LWDG methods involves the successive computation of exact flux derivatives. Large differences in catch per unit of effort between two minnow trap models

Background: Little is known about variation in catch per unit of effort (CPUE) in stickleback fisheries, or the factors explaining this variation. We investigated how nine-spined stickleback (Pungitius pungitius) CPUE was influenced by trap model by comparing the CPUEs of two very similar minnow trap models fished side-by-side in a paired experimental design. Results: The galvanized trap type (mean CPUE = 1.31 fish h–1) out-fished the black trap type (mean CPUE = 0.20 fish h–1) consistently, and yielded on average 81% more fish. Many enterprises migrate to a private cloud VDI environment. In such an environment multiple workstations are served by a single powerful server. On such an environment each VDI workstation receives only a limited CPU power. An average of less than a quarter of a core per planned VDI workstation is a common setup. Under such cases, anti-virus and application control software load is multiplied by the number of VDI workstation running on each server. These security applications take merely a few percentages of a single core on a normal desktop.
