A computationally effective 3D Boundary Element Method for polycrystalline micromechanics

An effective computational framework for homogenization and microcracking analysis of polycrystalline RVEs is presented. The method is based on a recently developed grain-boundary formulation for polycrystalline materials and several enhancements over the original technique are introduced to reduce the computational effort needed to model three-dimensional polycrystalline aggregates, which is highly desirable, especially in a multiscale perspective. First, a regularization scheme is used to remove pathological entities, usually responsible for unduly large mesh refinements, from Voronoi polycrystalline morphologies. La présente recherche (qui s'achèvera en 2007-2008) envisage une manière de tester empiriquement la thèse de la reproduction de Bourdieu et Passeron en explorant la perception de la légitimité des inégalités scolaires et de leurs incidences sociales, chez des individus inégalement formés. Elle entend ainsi explorer les relations entre trajectoire scolaire (niveau atteint, mais aussi filière de formation suivie) et intériorisation de la méritocratie et plus largement le jugement sur les inégalités existantes.

AbstractThe present paper presents the methodology and the practical calculations for risk based inspection planning of fatigue cracks in welded offshore steel structures. Due to the uncertainty in the variables involved in the problem the planning has to be carried out by stochastic modeling and risk based assessments. Scatter in potential crack growth has to be analyzed by applied probabilistic facture mechanics and the uncertainty in the performance of the actual inspection technique has to be determined.
