Structural characterization of TiO2/TiN O (δ-doping) heterostructures on (1 1 0)TiO2 substrates

2003

Abstract TiO2/TiNxOy δ-doping structures were grown on the top of (1 1 0)TiO2 rutile substrates by low pressure metal-organic vapor phase epitaxy (LP-MOVPE) technique at 750 °C. The samples were analyzed by high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS) and X-ray diffraction techniques (rocking curves and φ-scans). The presence of satellites in the (1 1 0)TiO2 rocking curve revealed the epitaxial growth of 10 period δ-doping structures. The thickness of the TiO2 layers, 84 nm, was deduced from the satellites period. HRTEM observations showed around 1.5 nm thick δ-doping layers, where the presence of nitrogen was detected by EELS. The analy…

EBSD, XRD and SRS characterization of a casting Al-7wt%Si alloy processed by equal channel angular extrusion: Dislocation density evaluation

2019

Abstract Aluminum‑silicon (Al Si) alloys of high silicon contents are composite materials; they are used whenever high casting properties are required. They are slightly ductile below 8wt%Si. An increase in ductility can be obtained by refining Si-crystals in elaboration or by a further hot working. In the present work, an Al-7wt%Si alloy was processed by Equal Channel Angular Extrusion (ECAE) at temperatures 20 °C and 160 °C up to three passes. The die was formed by two cylindrical channels with characteristic angles Φ = 110° and Ψ = 0. EBSD, X ray diffraction (XRD) and Strain Rate Sensitivity (SRS) were used to characterize the microstructure and the mechanical properties. High levels of …

Effect of surface finishing on the oxidation behaviour of a ferritic stainless steel

2017

Abstract The corrosion behaviour and the oxidation mechanism of a ferritic stainless steel, K41X (AISI 441), were evaluated at 800 °C in water vapour hydrogen enriched atmosphere. Mirror polished samples were compared to as-rolled K41X material. Two different oxidation behaviours were observed depending on the surface finishing: a protective double (Cr,Mn) 3 O 4 /Cr 2 O 3 scale formed on the polished samples whereas external Fe 3 O 4 and (Cr,Fe) 2 O 3 oxides grew on the raw steel. Moreover, isotopic marker experiments combined with SIMS analyses revealed different growth mechanisms. The influence of surface finishing on the corrosion products and growth mechanisms was apprehended by means o…

Structural, microstructural and dielectric studies in multiferroic LaSrNiO4-δ prepared by mechanical milling method

2016

Abstract The solid solution LaSrNiO 4-δ has been successfully prepared by a rapid method combining mechanical milling and heat treatment. The structure and microstructure transformations were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction, scanning and transmission electron microscopy. The dielectric property was also investigated. After 10 h of milling and 8 h of heat treatment at 1300 °C, X-ray diffraction analysis revealed LaSrNiO 4-δ single phase, exhibiting tetragonal structure with space group of I4/mmm. This result was confirmed by using the ED pattern for sample using the [001] orientation. The corresponding lattice images show the compound to be well ordered, indicating the absence of s…

Microstructure and electric properties of low-pressure plasma sprayed β-FeSi 2 based coatings

2017

Abstract Thermoelectric material β-FeSi 2 based coating was fabricated by the technique low-pressure plasma spray (LPPS) on the Al 2 O 3 substrate from different alloy powders. During the process LPPS, the phase transformation had occurred through the peritectoid, eutectoid reaction and their inverse reaction. The grain size of the as-sprayed β-FeSi 2 doped Co coatings was reduced comparing with the original feedstock powders, which implied the thermal conductivity could effectively decreased by the LPPS process. The room temperature electrical conductivity showed metal and semiconductor properties on the as-sprayed and annealed coatings. This method and the results could solve the problems…

Synthesis of FeAl Hetero-Nanostructured Bulk Parts via Spark Plasma Sintering of Milled Powder

2006

AbstractSpark plasma sintering (SPS) has been used in order to introduce nanocrystalline grains within fully dense FeAl consolidated parts. Hetero-nanostructured parts, consisting of nano, ultrafine and micrometric grains, have been successfully processed when milled - Y2O3 reinforced - FeAl powder was used. The large temperature differences that are spontaneously generated during the SPS process as well as the use of milled powder account for the formation of such interesting structures. The grain size distribution - that is suggested to be very potent to improve both strength and ductility - could be significantly modified by a proper selection of sintering temperature and holding time.

Growth of WC–Cr–N and WC–Al–N coatings in a RF-magnetron sputtering process

2013

Tungsten carbide-based coatings have been used in a wide variety of industrial applications such as high speed cutting tools, extrusion dies, drills, aerospace industries, and more. A few reports on ternary and quaternary coatings of WC with other elements indicate good prospects for these material systems. The present study focuses on the formation of quaternary WCeCreN and WCeAleN coatings during the simultaneous reactive RF-magnetron sputtering of tungsten carbide and Al or Cr targets in an argon/nitrogen gas mixture. The resulting coatings, with thicknesses of 3.5 mme8.2 mm, were characterized by using several analytical techniques including X-ray diffraction, SEM/EDS, AFM, and X-ray ph…

Stable and simple quantitative phase-contrast imaging by Fresnel biprism

2018

Digital holographic (DH) microscopy has grown into a powerful nondestructive technique for the real-time study of living cells including dynamic membrane changes and cell fluctuations in nanometer and sub-nanometer scales. The conventional DH microscopy configurations require a separately generated coherent reference wave that results in a low phase stability and a necessity to precisely adjust the intensity ratio between two overlapping beams. In this work, we present a compact, simple, and very stable common-path DH microscope, employing a self-referencing configuration. The microscope is implemented by a diode laser as the source and a Fresnel biprism for splitting and recombining the be…

Investigation of mechanical and electrical properties of Li doped sodium niobate ceramic system

2016

ABSTRACTThe Na0.96Li0.04NbO3 ceramic solid solution was prepared by means of a two-stage hot-pressing technology. The X-ray diffraction analysis showed the formation of a single perovskite phase with an orthorhombic symmetry in the investigated composition. The microstructure and EDS measurements were performed. They confirmed the high purity and the expected qualitative composition. A good homogeneity of the microstructures and a small degree of porosity were observed. The elastic modulus (the Young's modulus E, shear modulus G, and Poisson's ratio ν) of Na0.96Li0.04NbO3 were determined with the use of an ultrasonic method. The electrical properties of Na0.96Li0.04NbO3 ceramics were invest…
