The paper focuses on changes of urban and cultural landscapes after 1945 under the communist regime in a way that they were presented in Polish, Czech and Slovak literature published after 1989 (when a climate for talking about politically uncomfortable topics has changed). The main subject of the author‟s interest is how surrounding landscape influences people‟s behaviour demonstrated in literary pieces. The paper deals with the sculptural images of the Iulio-Claudian princesses that were found in SIcily,. Beside iconography, the statuary types, associations and contexts of the portraits are treated, in order to understand the meanings and the role of the honors payed to the domus Augusta by the cities of Roman Sicily in shaping the new cultural landscape of the province after Augustus.

Twenty-two years ago, Germany was reunified as a single state. Waste land, pollution and empty buildings are some of the problems that the people had to face, along with radical and painful political reorganization. The strong collective reaction to these environmental and social disasters was heart-warming. Hundreds of coordinated and collective actions of renovation in open spaces were carried out. People were involved in each level of the design process in order to decide the best way to improve and promote the heritage and identity of their landscape.
