A number of methods and formulae has been proposed in the literature to estimate the discharge capacity of compound channels. When the main channel has a meandering pattern, a reduction in the conveyance capacity for a given stage is observed, which is due to the energy dissipations caused by the development of strong secondary currents and to the decrease of the main channel bed slope with respect to the valley bed slope. Abstract This paper introduces and analyzes new approximation procedures for bivariate functions. These procedures are based on an edge-adapted nonlinear reconstruction technique which is an intrinsically two-dimensional extension of the essentially non-oscillatory and subcell resolution techniques introduced in the one-dimensional setting by Harten and Osher. Efficient formulation of a two-noded geometrically exact curved beam element

The article extends the formulation of a 2D geometrically exact beam element proposed by Jirasek et al. (2021) to curved elastic beams. This formulation is based on equilibrium equations in their integrated form, combined with the kinematic relations and sectional equations that link the internal forces to sectional deformation variables. The resulting first-order differential equations are approximated by the finite difference scheme and the boundary value problem is converted to an initial value problem using the shooting method. Computation of the topological type of a real Riemann surface

We present an algorithm for the computation of the topological type of a real compact Riemann surface associated to an algebraic curve, i.e., its genus and the properties of the set of fixed points of the anti-holomorphic involution $\tau$, namely, the number of its connected components, and whether this set divides the surface into one or two connected components. This is achieved by transforming an arbitrary canonical homology basis to a homology basis where the $\mathcal{A}$-cycles are invariant under the anti-holomorphic involution $\tau$.

Finite element analysis of varitional crimes for a quasilinear elliptic problem in 3D

We examine a finite element approximation of a quasilinear boundary value elliptic problem in a three-dimensional bounded convex domain with a smooth boundary. The domain is approximated by a polyhedron and a numerical integration is taken into account. We apply linear tetrahedral finite elements and prove the convergence of approximate solutions on polyhedral domains in the $W^1_2$ -norm to the true solution without any additional regularity assumptions.
