Optical stimulation techniques prove useful to map func- tional inputs in the in vitro brain slice preparation: Glutamate released by a focused beam of UV light induces action potentials, which can be detected in postsynaptic neurons. The direct activation effect is influenced by factors such as compound concentration, focus depth, light absorption in the tissue, and sensitivity of different neuronal do- mains. We presented a case of recurrent metastasis from epidermoid cancer that occurred in the left clavicle of a patient with a history of laryngeal cancer treated on April 2005 with extended hemilaryngectomy, neck dissection and chemoradiation therapy. On September 2008, he developed a left clavicular metastasis. The disease was initially well controlled by chemoradiotherapy but it recurred 17 months later. The optimal treatment plan was established by several multidisciplinary meetings and the patient subsequently underwent an en bloc resection of the left clavicle, first rib and all the other involved structures. An {Fe60} tetrahedral cage: building nanoscopic molecular assemblies through cyanometallate and alkoxo linkers

International audience; A nanoscopic {Fe60} coordination cage (approximately 3 nm) was prepared by the self assembly of a partially blocked tricyanidoferrate(III) complex and tris(alkoxo)-based iron(III) coordination motifs. This cage is a rare example of a mixed cyanido/alkoxo-bridged high nuclearity complex and it exemplifies the great potential of this new synthetic route to generate uncommon molecular architectures using cyanometallates as metalloligands versus alkoxo-based polynuclear entities.

Abstract The purpose of the work was the study of the structural safety of R.C. beams subjected to corrosion processes though the derivation of moment-curvature diagrams and moment-to-shear interaction diagrams. Electromotive Force Generation with Hydrogen Release by Salt Water Flow under a Transverse Magnetic Field

By considering an electrolyte solution in motion in a duct under a transverse magnetic field, we notice that a so called Faraday voltage arises because of the Lorentz force acting on anions and cations in the fluid. When salt water is considered, hydrogen production takes place at one of the electrodes if an electric current, generated by Faraday voltage, flows in an external circuit. The maximum amount of hydrogen production rate is calculated by basic electrochemical concepts.

Optical fibre resonant rings based on polarisation sensitive couplers give rise to a set of new resonant configurations. Two of them exhibit interesting sensor applications since small changes of the polarisation state produce large effects on the output, due to the resonant characteristics of the system. The sensor arrangements proposed have the advantage of requiring no drift compensation of the optical fibre interferometer against environmental fluctuations, since the parameters used to determine the measurand are the finesse and the visibility but not a phase change. Improvement of IPMSM performance through a mixed radial-tangential rotor structure

In this paper an IPMSM (Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) rotor configuration optimization is proposed in order to increase the performances in terms of torque, limiting at the same time the rotor leakage flux. The final mixed radial and tangential rotor configuration here proposed and described determines a reduction in PM material quantity of about 25% compared to a tangential IPMSM one with the same dimension and weight, together with an increase of the motoring torque of about 50%.
