Initial reaction steps in the condensed-phase decomposition of propellants

2002

Understanding the reaction mechanisms for the decomposition of NO2-containing energetic materialsin the condensed phase is critical to our development of detailed kinetic models of these energetic materials in propellant combustion. To date, the reaction mechanisms in the condensed phase have been represented by global reactions. The detailed elementary reactions subsequent to the initial NO2 bond scissioning are not known. Using quantum chemical calculations, we have investigated the possible early steps in the decomposition of energetic materials that can occur in the condensed phase. We have used methylnitrate, methylnitramine, and nitroethane as prototypes for O−NO2, N−NO2 and C−NO2 nit…

Ganzkörper-Spiral-CT zur Primärdiagnostik polytraumatisierter Patienten unter Notfallbedingungen

1997

PURPOSE The aim of this study was to evaluate the role of a fast whole body helical CT scanner for primary diagnosis in trauma patients. METHODS 27 severely injured patients (9 women, 18 men; mean age 43 years) were first examined with a helical CT scanner allowing for digital radiograms up to a length of 1024 mm and continuous helical scans of up to 70 seconds (slice thickness 3 to 10 mm, pitch factor up to 2). The primary CT diagnosis was verified either by x-ray after the CT examination or during the subsequent days, by abdominal ultrasound, by additional CT scans in the following days, and by clinical follow-up. RESULTS CT showed all clinically relevant injuries of the head, spine, ches…

Fish-farming effects on benthic community structure in coastal sediments: analysis of meiofaunal recovery

2000

To study the impact of organic enrichment and high biodeposition caused by intensive fish farming in coastal sediments, meiofaunal samples were collected on a monthly basis between March and October 1997 at two stations of the Gaeta Gulf: One under the Farmocean cage (2000 m3), while the other (the control) was located at about 1 km from an area not impacted by fish farming. The fish farm contained about 120 000 Dicentrarchus labrax (density 18 kg m -3). The most evident changes in the benthic habitat under the cage were a large accumulation of primary organic material (phytopigment concentrations up to 44 μg g-1), changes in sedimentary organic matter composition (increased lipid levels re…

Cultivation of the Mediterranean amberjack, Seriola dumerili (Risso, 1810), in submerged cages in the Western Mediterranean Sea

2000

The growth rate, survival and food conversion ratio (FCR) of the Mediterranean amberjack (Seriola dumerili, Risso, 1810) was ascertained in cultivation using submerged net cages in the Gulf of Castellammare (NW Sicily), from September to December 1994. Two net cages (volume = 75 m3) were placed at a depth of 10 m in a sheltered area 1000 m off the coast. Juveniles (mean total length = 141.4 ± 34 2 mm; mean total wet weight = 48 ± 28.1 g) were caught in the gulf under floating wreckage with a purse seine and transplanted to the cages (n = 800 per cage) in August. Fish in one cage, group A, were fed with fish scraps whilst fish in group B were fed with pellets The total length and body wet we…

Rotor bar pre-fault detection in the squirrel cage induction motors

2015

The paper deals with a diagnosis technique to detect and monitor incipient faults in the rotor bars of squirrel gage induction motors. The failure mode analysis is performed monitoring the motor axial vibrations. To accomplish the task, the authors present a mathematical model that allows relating the occurrence and the severity of the faults to the presence and the magnitude of some frequency components of the axial vibration spectrum. To validate the proposed approach, the results obtained by applying the mathematical model are compared with the ones obtained by experimental tests done on both healthy and faulty motors.

Cu2+-Induced formation of cage-like compounds containing pyrazole macrocycles

2002

The crystal structure of the complex [Cu4(H22L)2(H2O)2- (ClO4)2](ClO4)2·2H2O where L is a new pyrazole ligand containing 1,5-diaminopentane spacers represents a new form of obtaining metal ion-induced inorganic–organic cages. Tetrameric and Dimeric [N∙∙∙I+∙∙∙N] Halogen-Bonded Supramolecular Cages

2017

Tripodal N-donor ligands are used to form halogen-bonded assemblies via structurally analogous Ag+-complexes. Selective formation of discrete tetrameric I6L4 and dimeric I3L2 halonium cages, wherein multiple [N∙∙∙I+∙∙∙N] halogen bonds are used in concert, can be achieved by using sterically rigidified cationic tris(1-methyl-1-azonia-4-azabicyclo[2.2.2]octane)-mesitylene ligand, L1(PF6)3, and flexible ligand 1,3,5-tris(imidazole-1-ylmethyl)-2,4,6-trimethylbenzene, L2, respectively. The iodonium cages, I6L14(PF6)18 and I3L22(PF6)3, were obtained through the [N∙∙∙Ag+∙∙∙N] → [N∙∙∙I+∙∙∙N] cation exchange reaction between the corresponding Ag6L14(PF6)18 and Ag3L22(PF6)3 coordination cages, prepar…
