Gestational exposure to cocaine alters cocaine reward

2006

Exposure of the developing foetus to drugs of abuse during pregnancy may lead to persistent abnormalities of brain systems involved in drug addiction. Mice prenatally exposed to cocaine (25 mg/kg), physiological saline or non-treated during the last 7 days of pregnancy were evaluated in adulthood for the rewarding properties of cocaine (3, 25 and 50 mg/kg), using the conditioned place preference procedure. Dams treated with physiological saline gained significantly less weight over the course of gestation than controls; no other differences were observed in the maternal and offspring data. All the animals developed preference to 3 and 25 mg/kg of cocaine, but those treated prenatally with c…

La do…

A lytic mechanism based on soluble phospholypases A2 (sPLA2) and b-galactoside specific lectins is exerted by Ciona intestinalis (ascidian) unilocula…

2011

Abstract Hemocytes from the ascidian Ciona intestinalis exert in vitro Ca 2+ -dependent cytotoxic activity toward mammalian erythrocytes and K562 cells. To examine the lytic mechanism, hemocyte populations were separated (B1–B6 bands) through a Percoll discontinuous density gradient, the hemocyte cytotoxic activity (HCA) and the lytic activity of the hemocyte lysate supernatant (HLS) were assayed. In addition the separated hemocytes were cultured and the cell-free culture medium (CFM) assayed after 3 h culture. Results support that unilocular refractile hemocytes (URGs), enriched in B5, are cytotoxic. The B5-HLS contains lysins and the activity of B5-CFM shows that lysins can be released in…

Paul Bert et l'instruction publique

2001

2006

The "Société de Crédit mutuel agricole" in Pouilly-en-Auxois (1896-1926). The Méline law of 5 November 1894 marks the birth of the "official" Crédit agricole. For moderate "agrarian" republicans this law, which aimed at meeting the needs of the recovery of agriculture, was also a mean to "win the campaigns for the Republic once and for all. "Thus, the creation of the first Société de Crédit mutuel agricole in Côte d'Or (Pouilly-en-Auxois) in March 1896 contributed to the consolidation to the republican base in this traditionally conservative district. The study of how this local agency worked during its first thirty years (1896-1926) shows us that it was managed by notable republicans with …

2012

“From Savage to Sublime (And Partway Back): Indians and Antiquity in Early Nineteenth-Century American Literature”

2016

This article examines the comparisons made between Indians and Antiquity in early nineteenth-century American literature (notably in the works of Washington Irving and James Fenimore Cooper); to do so, it begins by reaching back to references in European and American writings of the eighteenth century. One of the main motivations behind the associations between Native Americans and the Ancient World made in the early decades of the nineteenth century was to “elevate” Indians in order to transform them into worthy symbols of the recently established United States. Such associations also rendered them suitable subjects for treatment by authors inspired to a large extent by the Romantic Moveme…

Evaluation of enantioselective binding of basic drugs to plasma by ACE.

2007

The present paper deals with the evaluation of the stereoselective binding of antihistamines (brompheniramine, chlorpheniramine, hydroxyzine, orphenadrine and phenindamine), phenothiazines (promethazine and trimeprazine) and a local anesthetic (bupivacaine) to human plasma proteins. Since all of them are drugs highly bound to proteins, a methodology to determine the bound fraction of each drug enantiomer was proposed. This methodology includes the incubation of samples containing plasma and racemic drug, ultrafiltration of the mixture and the chiral separation of enantiomers in the bound drug fraction using affinity EKC (AEKC)-partial filling technique and HSA as chiral selector. The result…
