A Glow Discharge Optical Emission Spectrometry device has been designed for glove box adaptation in CEA Valduc to analyze carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen and oxygen at low concentration in nuclear materials. Vacuum ultraviolet region of the spectrum (between 120 and 160 nm) was chosen for light elements analysis with the aim to avoid optical interferences with matrix emission lines (20000 lines in the visible region for plutonium element). Model-based biotechnological potential analysis of Kluyveromyces marxianus central metabolism

Abstract The non-conventional yeast Kluyveromyces marxianus is an emerging industrial producer for many biotechnological processes. Here, we show the application of a biomass-linked stoichiometric model of central metabolism that is experimentally validated, and mass and charge balanced for assessing the carbon conversion efficiency of wild type and modified K. marxianus. Testing Hadronic Interactions at Ultrahigh Energies with Air Showers Measured by the Pierre Auger Observatory

2016

Ultrahigh energy cosmic ray air showers probe particle physics at energies beyond the reach of accelerators. Here we introduce a new method to test hadronic interaction models without relying on the absolute energy calibration, and apply it to events with primary energy 6-16 EeV (ECM=110-170 TeV), whose longitudinal development and lateral distribution were simultaneously measured by the Pierre Auger Observatory. The average hadronic shower is 1.33±0.16 (1.61±0.21) times larger than predicted using the leading LHC-tuned models EPOS-LHC (QGSJetII-04), with a corresponding excess of muons.

The Mediterranean Basin represents a Global Biodiversity Hotspot where many organisms show high inter- and intraspecific differentiation. Extant phylogeographic patterns of terrestrial circum-Mediterranean faunas were mainly shaped through Pleistocene range shifts and range fragmentations due to retreat into different glacial refugia. Thus, several extant Mediterranean bird species have diversified by surviving glaciations in different hospitable refugia and subsequently expanded their distribution ranges during the Holocene. A program for the simultaneous potentiometric determination of protonation constants and electrode calibration parameters

A program for the potentiometric determination of the protonation constants of mononuclear polyprotic substances is described. A maximum of twelve parameters can be determined simultaneously, including up to six protonation constants, four electrode calibration parameters, the protolysis constant of the solvent and the titrant concentration. Optimization is carried out by using the non-simplified Newton-Raphson method, which is potentiated by the Marquardt algorithm and a distance speeding-up coefficient. Immobilization of Hexacyanoferrate (III) for a Flow Injection-Spectrophotometric Determination of Promazine

Abstract An automated flow injection method for the determination of promazine is described. The method is based on the oxidation of promazine by hexacyanoferrate (III) and spectrophotometric monitorization of oxidized drug. The chemical and FIA variables were optimized. The calibration graph was linear over the concentration range 2,5–25 ppm of promazine hydrochloride. Some interfering substances were also investigated. The method was applied for the determination of promazine in pharmaceutical formulations.

Evaluation of activated sludge model no.2 at high phosphorus concentrations

This paper presents laboratory scale experimentation carried out to study enhanced biological phosphorus removal at high phosphorus concentrations in a sequencing batch reactor. Four series of data obtained in a sequencing batch reactor are examined in light of the Activated Sludge Model No. 2. This model was calibrated using data from the first and second series working at low phosphorus concentrations. For microorganisms in particular, viability is a term that is difficult to define and a state consequently difficult to measure. The traditional (and gold standard) usage equates viability and culturability (i.e., the ability to multiply) but the process of determining culturability is often too slow. An accurate optical technique for measuring the nuclear polarisation of 3He gas

It involves weak probe beams at 1083 nm, that are either perpendicular or parallel to the magnetic field and cell axis, with suitable light polarisations.
