Numerical procedures and their practical application in PV modules analyses. Part I: air mass

Abstract The subject of the article is aspects of PV modules and cells measurement, with the use of natural sunlight. A light source is an important element during calibration and measurements of solar cells and modules. All designers of artificial light sources try to recreate natural light using so called measurement tables. The correctly performed measurement, i.e. meeting all the appropriate atmospheric conditions, guarantees obtaining the result with the use of a reference spectrum. The article has two main aims. An experimental approach to efficiency calibration for gamma-ray spectrometric analysis of large air particulate filters

Abstract A full-energy-peak efficiency (FEPE) calibration procedure for gamma-ray spectrometric analysis of air particulate samples collected on large filters is described herein. The experimental results are obtained for an unconventional measurement geometry, termed a “packet-sample”. The sample is obtained from a large cellulose filter (45 cm×45 cm) used to collect air particulate samples that is resized to dimensions suitable for spectrometric measurements (6 cm×6 cm×0.7 cm). A combined 148Gd/244Cm source for energy calibration of α-spectrometers

For high-resolution alpha-particle spectroscopy, detector calibration sources of highest performance are required concerning thickness and homogeneity. In addition, the alpha-emitting radionuclides must have adequate half-lives and alpha-emission energies. This paper describes a new type of alpha-emitting calibration source, represented by a mixture of 148Gd and 244Cm. This system covers an alpha-energy range from 3.18 MeV (148Gd) to 5.76 and 5.80 MeV (244Cm). The source has been prepared by electrolytic deposition and has good performance in terms of thickness and homogeneity.

Application of the SKYRAD Improved Langley plot method for the in situ calibration of CIMEL Sun-sky photometers

The in situ procedure for determining the solar calibration constants, originally developed for the PREDE Sun-sky radiometers and based on a modified version of the Langley plot, was applied to a CIMEL instrument located in Valencia, Spain, not integrated into AERONET. Taking into account the different mechanical and electronic characteristics of the two radiometers, the method was adapted to the characteristics of the CIMEL instrument. An overview and issues of the sky radiometer technology and SKYNET

Abstract. This paper overviews the progress in the sky radiometer technology and development of the network called SKYNET. It is found that the technology has produced useful on-site calibration methods, retrieval algorithms, and data analyses from the sky radiometer observation of aerosol, cloud, water vapor and ozone. Increasing collaborations of users in the SKYNET community are becoming a useful platform for research and operation. The paper also presents issues of the technology for future development.

Summary The aim of this study is to evaluate the potential use of a low-cost single polarization X-band weather radar, verified by a disdrometer and a dense rain gauge network, installed as a supporting tool for hydrological applications and for monitoring the urban area of Palermo (Italy). Spectral characterization of laser-accelerated protons with CR-39 nuclear track detector

CR-39 nuclear track material is frequently used for the detection of protons accelerated in laser-plasma interactions. The measurement of track densities allows for determination of particle angular distributions, and information on the kinetic energy can be obtained by the use of passive absorbers. We present a precise method of measuring spectral distributions of laser-accelerated protons in a single etching and analysis process. We make use of a one-to-one relation between proton energy and track size and present a precise calibration based on monoenergetic particle beams. Study of intrinsic energy dependence of α-alanine and dose intercomparison with ESR and ISE techniques

Abstract The intrinsic energy behavior of the radiation chemical yields G(R·) and G(NH3) which determine the dose response for the alanine/ESR and alanine/Ion-Selective Electrode (ISE) system, is an important characteristic for the consistent use in different radiation environments. Therefore, the response of ISS and Gent α-alanine dosimeters in the dose range 0.1 to 700 kGy was examined with 60Co, bremsstrahlung and electron beam radiation. Bremsstrahlung beams with end point energy between 5 and 12 MeV and electron beams with mean energy at the effective point of measurement between 4 and 25 MeV were used. Second-order tensorial calibration for kinetic spectrophotometric determination

Abstract Kinetic-diode array spectrophotometric detection, as well as other multichannel techniques when used in non-equilibrium conditions, constitute second-order instrumentation. The second-order response provided will be bilinear, under certain conditions even trilinear, thus allowing the use of the generalized rank annihilation method (GRAM) and the trilinear decomposition method (TLD). Both numerically simulated and experimental data were used to evaluate the performance of these calibration techniques.
